Re: City of Champions - An Edmonton Oilers Dynasty

Trade Alert:

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired All star Captain John Scott from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for prospect Kale Kessy

John Scott was voted into the all star game in a internet fan vote.

The vote led to a high amount of drama and dirty laundry being aired by the league. Scott was sent to the Ahl in what seemed like an attempt to circumvent the fan vote.

In the end Mr. Scott handled himself with class and showed alot of character at the all star game. After seeing how Scott handled the situation, the Oilers acted quickly to add a positive attitude to the 4th line.

Re: City of Champions - An Edmonton Oilers Dynasty

Kind of a neat update, though out of character for this post.

I began with an older roster update and Draisaitl was a 72 to start. He spent the first 5 games in the ahl.

Got called up when Mcdavid got hurt. Seemed to play well above his ranking and stayed up. After 48 games he has progressed to an 83 overall. I don't post overalls much but I thought that was pretty cool.
His stats are 10 goals, 9 assists in 48 games. So it's not like he's being force boosted with cheesy stats.

Re: City of Champions - An Edmonton Oilers Dynasty

The trade deadline has come and gone and no trades materialized in Edmonton.

Several offers were made for the services of Oscar Klefbom but the Oilers refused to move him.

Ben Scrivens returned from a groin injury only to injure himself again in his first game back. He is now on the shelf for an undetermined amount of time.

Mike Richards who has been such a key part of this team has had a rash of injuries and led to some poor play from the bottom 6.

In the last 10 games the Oil have slumped to 3-6-1 and have seen the division lead whittled down to 6 points.

Taylor Hall has gone into a huge slump over this time recording only 1 point in his last 10.

A key bright spot over the past losses has been the play of Marcus Foligno. The media was skeptical of the move to bring him in but he has managed to work his way onto the PP, PK, and has been seeing time on the second line with the rash of injuries lately.

With a playoff spot all but locked up, Edmonton's Gm has been keeping an eye of projected free agents and has been deeply involved with scouting, spending the Christmas break at the World Juniors.

It's expected that Edmonton will put in an offer sheet on Florida defenseman Eric Gudbranson.

The Oilers have also been linked to pending free agent Luke Schenn.

A source close to the organization has stated that the Oilers made a hard push for Montreal's Zach Fucale at the deadline but a deal could not be reached. It's expected the teams will re examine this in the summer.

Pending RFA Justin Schultz has had a muddling year but will be on the 2nd pairing for the next while with Sekera out.

UFA Teddy Purcell has been unhappy most of the season and is not expected back.

Griffen Reinhardt has been excellent down the stretch and has moved up to the top pair on the PP and is a top 4 defenseman at this point.

Nail Yakupov has been nearly invisible despite getting big minutes all year. Hopefully a solid playoff run will kick start the struggling sniper.

Cam Talbot was the talk of trade rumours at the beginning of the season but has played excellent recording 6 shutouts so far. It's expected that the Oilers will sign him to an extension.

There are 13 games remaining in
The regular season and the key will be getting healthy.

Re: City of Champions - An Edmonton Oilers Dynasty

The regular season has ended and the Oilers have secured first place in the division with a record of 48-28-6.

Taylor Hall managed to get out of his slump and finished the season with 46 goals and 70 points!

Cam Talbot played strong in the second half of the season,( 23-17-2) 2.15 GAA , .919 SV% and 10 shutouts

The Oilers are facing the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round.

Griffen Reinhardt is out for 2 more weeks. Tyler Cuma has been called up to fill in. Ben Scrivens is due back from his torn hamstring in 9 days which could make him available to the Oilers in the second round.

Key Chicago injuries heading into the series: M.Rozsival (concussion)and D****nblad (broken leg) are both going to miss the playoffs.

The fans in Edmonton are excited to see the playoff drought end especially in what has turned out to be a transitional year for Edmonton.

The players know that their performances in the post season will be a large factor going forward as the team has 11 players on the main roster scheduled to be free agents this summer.

Re: City of Champions - An Edmonton Oilers Dynasty

Game 1 (@Edmonton) 4-1 win!
The game was very close to about 3 minutes left when Teddy Purcell scored to make it a 2 goal lead. Hall had the E.N.

Game 2 (@Edmonton) 4-3 win in O.T.!

Connor Mcdavid opened the scoring late in the first.

Panarin and Shaw scored less then a minute apart in the second thanks to a parade of Oiler penalties.

3rd period, Shaw scores his 2nd of the night and the penalty trouble continues for the Oil..

Up 3-1 the Hawks continue to swarm in the offensive zone. Martin Gernat catches Seabrook pinching and springs Teddy Purcell on a break away..............

Teddy buries it!!!!

Suddenly there's life in the building, Edmonton pushes back against the Hawks.

Martin Gernat levels Patrick Kane with a clean hit near the half boards and springs Taylor Hall and Connor McDavid for a 2 on 1...McDavid taps home the cross crease pass tie game!!

The teams head into overtime and play tightens up for the first time since the second period.

Just past the 12 minute mark of overtime Chicago is called for icing. On the ensuing faceoff the puck is turned over behind the net, Pouliot sends a lazer beam pass in front to Teddy Purcell for his 3rd in 2 games!!!

Re: City of Champions - An Edmonton Oilers Dynasty

Game 3: Edmonton fell down 3-0 early due in large part to an inability to recognize the cross crease one timer. No momentum could be gained. Final 6-3 Chicago

Game 4: Defense once again was poor on both sides, Talbot faced a ton of shots again, showed signs of being overworked.
Ben Scrivens was activated for this game but did not see any playing time.
Final score Edmonton 6-4 over Chicago

Game 5 :
A packed house elimination game in the final season for the Oilers in Rexall Place.
Ben Scrivens gets the nod in goal for an over worked Cam Talbot.
Mark Messier was on hand to give the young team some advice on staying in the moment, not to get caught looking ahead.

First period:
Both teams came out a lot tighter then in the past few games. Connor McDavid capitalized on an early turnover. 1-0 Edmonton after one.

Second Period:
The Oilers draw a boarding penaly giving Chicago an early power play. A point to point pass is broken up by McDavid and he buries the breakaway goal just after the penalty expires. 2-0 Edmonton after 40 minutes.

Period 3:
Chicago would crank up the pressure from the first faceoff, leading to 3 straight Oiler penalties but no goals for Chicago.

Back to even strength, Chicago is called for icing after Patrick Kane was devastated with an open ice hit by Oscar Klefbom.

On the ensuing faceoff, Jordan Eberle would tip in a point shot for a 3-0 lead. Minutes later Connor McDavid would poke in a rebound for his first playoff hat trick!

Final score: Edmonton 4 Chicago 0.
Edmonton moves on to face the Ducks in the second round.
