January Recap

With one month left until the trade deadline fans and insiders expect the Leafs to be one of the busiest teams in the league.

Team Leaders
Goals J Van Riemsdyk 19
Assists J Van Riemsdyk 21
+/- L Komarov +5
PIMS D Phaneuf 98
Wins J Reimer 16

Standings

Atlantic Division 8th
Eastern Conference 15th
League 27th

Leafs Biggest Surprise

The only real positive this team has this season is winger J. Van Riemsdyk who in 46 games this year has 40 points which is impressive when nobody else on the team has even 30 points so far.

Leafs Biggest Disappointment

Morgan Rielly was expected to break out this year and take the next step in his young career but that has just not happened. In 46 games Rielly only has 17 points and 2 goals.

Really excited to see what the Leafs do at the deadline... Looks like you had a rough patch of games there but Bernier seemed to be decent in a couple too. Bright days in a dark time in Toronto...

February 2nd 2016
Maple Leafs 4 (21-24-3) @ Bruins 1 (25-21-3)

The Leafs went into Boston and played a solid complete game to skate their way to a 4-1 win over the Bruins.

Bernier stopped 27 of 28 shots in the win, and Jeremy Morin scored what turned out to be the game winning goal.

February 4th 2016
Devils 3 (24-22-5) @ Maple Leafs 2 (22-24-3)

Returning home after a win in Boston the Leafs looked to carry the momentum to another win but ended up losing at home to New Jersey.

Shawn Matthias had a goal and assist in the game, and it was former Leaf Jiri Tlusty that scored the game winner for the Devils.

February 6th 2016
Maple Leafs 5 (22-25-3) @ Senators 2 (32-17-3)

The Leafs were able to net 3 in the first against rival Senators and never looked back going on to win in Ottawa 5-2

Nazem Kadri had a goal and assist in the game and Daniel Winnik scored the game winner.

February 9th 2016
Maple Leafs 2 (23-25-3) @ Flames 4 (22-23-6)

Toronto continued their inconsistent up and down play by going into Calgary and losing 4-2 to the Flames.

Young center Sam Bennett scored a pair and goalie Karri Ramo stopped 33 of 35 in the win.

February 11th 2016
Maple Leafs 3 (23-26-3) @ Oilers 2 (23-25-7)

Leafs coughed up the lead early in the 3rd but were able to get the win in overtime to leave Edmonton with the 3-2 win.

James Reimer was solid in net stopping 28 of 30 and Nazem Kadri was the savior scoring the OT winner.

February 13th 2016
Maple Leafs 2 (24-26-3) @ Canucks 4 (26-23-5)

Toronto's western Canada trip ended about as expected with a 4-2 loss in Vancouver to the Canucks

goaltender Ryan Miller played great stopping 36 of 38 shots in the win. Leafs had one bright spot as James Van Riemsdyk scored both goals for his team making people wonder if he will help the rebuild by being a leader or being a big trade chip

February 18th 2016
Rangers 3 (31-22-4) @ Maple Leafs 4 (25-27-3)

The young legs on the Leafs seem to be paying off as they pulled off another upset win in a game that went all the way to a shootout.

Jonathan Bernier had a stellar game stopping 40 of 43 shots, and Van Riemsdyk scored a goal and assist, and also added the shootout winner.

February 20th 2016

February 23rd 2016
Predators 6 (31-24-5) @ Maple Leafs 5 (27-27-3)

A high scoring game that saw a total of 11 goals scored did not go the way of the home team as the Leafs lost 6-5 at home to the Predators.

The game saw hat tricks on both sides of the ice, Mike Fisher scoring 3 for the Preds, and Peter holland responding with a hat trick of his own for the Leafs.

February 25th 2016
Hurricanes 2 (36-17-8) @ Maple Leafs 5 (27-28-3)

The Leafs had another high offense game but this time were able to hold the opponent down and send the Hurricanes away with a 5-2 loss in Toronto.

Peter Holland was a standout again scoring a goal and adding an assist in the win.
