Re: Los Angeles Kings (NHL 16 Be A GM)

Kings and Ducks prepare for the sequel

April 25, 2016

LOS ANGELES - For the second time in three years, the battle of Southern California will decide who plays in the Western Conference Final.

The Ducks survived Game 7 against the Calgary Flames last night, 3-2, setting up a Western Semifinal between themselves and their rivals from up the road on Interstate-5, the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kings and Ducks played an exciting seven game series in the same round two years ago, with the Kings ultimately prevailing with a 6-2 blowout win in Anaheim in Game 7. This time around Los Angeles will hold home ice, with Game 1 slated for tomorrow night at Staples Center. The Kings' elimination of St. Louis in five games combined with the Ducks being pushed to seven by Calgary has given LA a full seven days off between games, and that rest has proven valuable, as Jonathan Quick is expected to be back between the pipes tomorrow night.

The usual suspects for the Ducks led them against the Flames, as Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry had seven points apiece in the seven game first round series. Frederik Andersen is expected to start in goal for the Ducks, but his numbers were shaky against Calgary - 2.80 GAA, .907 SV% - and Anaheim won't hesitate to go to John Gibson if needed.

The other Western semifinal will pit the defending Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks against the West's #1 overall seed, the Dallas Stars. In the East, the Presidents' Trophy-winning Penguins eliminated the Rangers in six games, and will now renew their blood feud with Philadelphia in the second round; the Flyers beat the Islanders in five games. The other Eastern semifinal features a rematch from last year's first round in Detroit and Tampa Bay; the Lightning eliminated the Red Wings in seven games last year.

Re: Los Angeles Kings (NHL 16 Be A GM)

Kings lose Staal
Star center's injury places LA's lineup in flux

April 27, 2016

LOS ANGELES - One of the main storylines of the Western Conference Semifinal between Los Angeles and Anaheim was the starpower up the middle of each team's lineup; the chess match of Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler against LA's Anze Kopitar and Jordan Staal.

That storyline may be shortcircuited now, as Staal left midway through the 3rd period of Game 1 in considerable discomfort after absorbing a body check from the aforementioned Kesler. As usual, the Kings (like any other team) are being tight-lipped about Staal's injury, calling it an upper body injury, and offering no guess as to when he might return.

In his place, Nick Shore draws into the lineup, and Jeff Carter seems likely to move from wing to center LA's 2nd line.
