Yeah, for the most part. Defense is full of solid prospects, as are my goalies. Wingers are my weakness, but I plan on going with wingers in the draft. Though I just noticed that Fazleev(Center prospect) was put in free agency and signed by Buffalo....crud...

Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17)

Philadelphia Flyers Season Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers surprised many experts by sneaking into the playoffs last season and taking the Washington Capitals to the limit even without their starting goalie Steve Mason and defensive center Sean Couturier. Ron Hextall didn't make any waves during free agency, only signing Dale Weise and TJ Brennen to contracts. 2015 1st Rounders Travis Konecny and Ivan Provorov are going to start the 2016-17 season in the Orange and Black after a very good pre-season for the two youngsters. This team might not be a top contender team, but do not count them out.

Offense: The Flyers' Offense runs through Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. Both players had solid World Cup showing and that should carry over into the season. Sean Couturier(39 points in 63 Games) and Brayden Schenn(59 Points in 80 games) are another year older and both are coming off breakout seasons. The expectations are high for the two young forwards. Wayne Simmonds will continue to be a force during the powerplays and should reach 25 goals this year. Rookie Travis Konecny is going to start on the 2nd line and the Flyers faithful are buzzing over this kid. He is a firecracker that is extremely talented and vicious. The rest of the lineup will chip in goals with a potential third line of M.Raffl-N.Cousins-M.Read that could cause mayhem while scoring. Shayne Gostisbehere has high expectations after his unbelievable arrival into the NHL and Michael Del Zotto is healthy and should resume his top line role and both are expected to chip in on the offense.

Defense: The Flyers still have Andrew MacDonald hanging around, but the addition of rookie Ivan Provorov and the emergence of Brandon Manning has put Hextall in a bit of a pickle and with the wealth of prospects the Flyers have in the pool it'll be hard to keep them out of the lineup. Shayne Gostisbehere, Radko Gudas, and Michael Del Zotto will lead this defense. Wouldn't be surprised to see Mark Streit moved around the deadline, if the Flyers aren't in the playoff running. The 38 year old can still play and will be looked upon to help the younger defenders, but his role has diminished.

Goalies: Don't let the Flyers media sway you, this job is Steve Mason's and his to lose. His preseason numbers were spectacular(1.59GAA, 94.4SV% with a 4-2 record) and he seems to be in mid season form already. Michal Neuvirth is an excellent goalie and the Flyers are lucky to have two great goalies. Neuvy could be a starter on a few teams and with one year remaining he may get that opportunity, but unless Mason either flubs or gets an injury, Neuvirth will see maybe 30 games.

Expectation: Continue the young development and challenge for a playoff spot

Fluke Goal Gives Flyers Season Opener Victory

Steve Mason makes a pad save on Tanner Pearson late in the 2nd period

NHL.com -- Nick Cousins' first goal of the 2016-17 campaign was a flukey one but it would turn out to be the game winning goal. Cousins skated up the left wing and was trying to make a pass to the slot, but that pass ended up missing it's intended target and instead hit Jonathan Quick's skate and into the goal. "It was a flukey play, for sure. I was trying to get the puck to Raffl in the slot and was a bit off. Lucky for me it was heading towards the goal and Quick misplayed it." Cousins told the post-game media. Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn would add goals of their own, while Steve Mason made 20 saves. The Flyers came out strong and with the help of three powerplays, they led 1-0 and were outshooting the Kings 13-1. Alas the pendulum of hockey swung in the King's favor as Trevor Lewis fired a slapshot that beat Mason high and the Kings had five powerplays, but Steve Mason and the penalty killing teams held strong,. In the third period Anze Kopitar would pounce on a bad rebound from Mason to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. Sean Couturier would find a Wayne Simmonds rebound in the slot and ripped his 1st of the year past quick, before Nick Cousins scored to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead that they would hold.

Hanzal's Hat Trick Leads Seattle to Victory

NHL.com -- Seattle finally got it's hockey season underway and Martin Hanzal made sure to send the fans happy. Hanzal would score an empty netter to seal the victory for the Pioneers and also the Pioneer's 1st ever Hat Trick. The Pioneers overcame a 2-0 deficit and scored 4 unanswered in just about 6 minutes on a few miscues by Steve Mason and the Flyers defense. Claude Giroux scored two goals and Matt Read added another as the Flyers suffered their 1st loss after beating the Los Angeles Kings last night.
