Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17) 2.0
Couturier's Natural Hat Trick Leads Flyers Blowout Sean Couturier Celebrates his 2nd Career Playoff Hat Trick NHL.com -- Tuuka Rask returned from injury and the Flyers did not take it easy on the goalie. Peppering Rask with 54 shots the Flyers gave their hometown faithful a ton to cheer about. Sean Couturier scored a hat trick, Scott Laughton added two more and Anthony Stolarz overcame a mishandled puck in the 2nd to keep the Bruins quiet(Backes goal was a weird glitch, puck rocketed off Stolarz's stick from behind the net and hit Kronwall and in the net). The Bruins, still missing Krug, were victimized by the Flyers speed as their defensemen were caught flat-footed on numerous occasion and if Rask hadn't made the saves he did a 7-2 game could have gotten even more out of hand.(Blowouts happened in the Chicago-Avs game, 6-0 CHI and the SJ/LA, 5-2 SJ)

Flyers Send Bruins Packing with 5-1 Win Sean Couturier scores his 8th goal of the Playoffs NHL.com -- The Flyers after taking Game 4 in OT after piling on the shots they continued that plan of attack for Game 5 and chased Tuuka Rask again to advance to the 2nd Round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 1st time since the 2011-12 seasons. The Bruins ended up taking 23 minutes in penalties including Matt Belesky trying to fight Samuel Morin. Sean Couturier continues to dominate of late as he scored his 7th and 8th goals of the postseason, while Anthony Stolarz has solidified his role as the Flyers goaltender for the playoffs. The Flyers get to enjoy some recovery as they await their next opponent.

Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17) 2.0
Flyers vs Panthers Series Preview OFFENSE: Flyers scored goals at will vs the Boston Bruins, while the Panthers had a tight defensive series against the Lightning. But the Flyers have witnessed first hand the Panther's abilities to score after they were handed a humiliating 10-2 loss back in March. The Flyers are definitely motivated by that loss, "It was humiliating" Claude Giroux told reporters, "To suffer a loss like that really gives the team a wake up call!" The Flyers took advantage of a poorly disciplined Bruins team to light them up for 20 goals in their 5-game series, while the Panthers' special teams struggled mightily(PP is at 11% while the PK is a pitiful 64.3%). Sean Couturier has been on an absolute tear with 8 goals in five games and he'll be a big focus for the Panthers defense. ADVANTAGE: PHILADELPHIA DEFENSE: The Panthers did an excellent job against Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov as both were held to just one goal in five games, but now they face a Flyers team that has some unreal depth. Led by Aaron Ekblad and Keith Yandle, the Panthers have a group of defenders that can keep up with the Flyers speed, something the Bruins corp struggled mightily with. The Flyers defense gets an improvement as Radko Gudas returns from his injury giving the Flyers some more bruising power. Morin and Kronwall were having a field day with the Bruins forwards and the speed of Gostisbehere, Sanheim and Provorov will be more than capable of dealing with the Panthers forwards. ADVANTAGE: PHILADELPHIA GOALTENDING: Antony Stolarz could be this year's Cam Ward as the 24-year old has a 4-0 record with a 1.21GAA and 94.5SV%, while on the otherside is Roberto Luongo who is equally as hot(4-1, 2.21GAA, 93.5SV%) so this has the potential to turn into a goalie duel. ADVANTAGE: FLORIDA, Luongo's experience could prove to be the difference PREDICTION: Flyers in 7 |

Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17) 2.0
S.Griffith Scores with 9.8 Left to Give Panthers Game Three Victory Seth Griffith scores the game-winner with 9.8 seconds left NHL.com -- The Panther's powerplay woke up going 2/2 and Seth Griffith scored a clutch goal after the Panther's clawed their way back into the game thanks to their top line of Huberdeau, Barkov and Jokinen. The Flyers came out in front of a rabid home crowd and controlled the play for a majority of the game. Anthony Stolarz made 21 saves in his roughest outing of the postseason. Claude Giroux got scoring started on the powerplay with less than a minute left in the first and Scott Laughton would add a goal midway into the 2nd. The lead would be cut in half after Jonathan Huberdeau beat Stolarz with 5 seconds left on a one-timer. With Radko Gudas off with an elbowing call, Jussi Jokinen would get free and bang home a rebound to tie it. Travis Konecny got the lead back for the Flyers on a breakaway goal that Luongo got a piece of. Another elbowing call on Gudas led to another powerplay goal as Huberdeau deflected a Jussi Jokinen slap-pass into the net. With a faceoff in the Flyers zone and 11 seconds on the clock, the Panthers would win the faceoff and a miscommunication would leave Seth Griffith alone at the circle and the youngster did not miss. Bad news for the Panthers as Vincent Trocheck left the game with a injury after a hard hit from Upshall, while Nick Bjugstad was injured while blocking a shot. Both are going to miss Game 4 and could miss more.
Laughton's Shorthander Gives Flyers 3-1 Lead

Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17) 2.0
Stolarz Makes 40 Saves, Flyers Advance to Conference Finals Stolarz makes a pad save on Jussi Jokinen late in last night's Game 5 NHL.com -- Anthony Stolarz continues his amazing playoff performance, as the young netminder made 40 saves and the Flyers offense got five goals by Roberto Luongo in last night's 5-2 Flyers victory to punch their ticket to the Conference Finals. The Panthers came out ferocious, as you would expect, and the Flyers countered quick. An early goal by Ivan Provorov from the high slot put the Panters on their heels slightly, but Dylan McIlrath tied the game midway through the 1st. M.Raffl would find a lose puck and give the Flyers a 2-1 going into the 2nd period. The teams were neck and neck for a while, before Samuel Morin crushed Jonathan Huberdeau with a massive check. Huberdeau would leave for the game and McIlrath tried to take Morin on in retaliation, but Morin handled McIlrath. From there the Flyers had the momentum. Sean Couturier would score on a powerplay goal, before Voracek would add two goals of his own in the third period. Repik scored for the Panthers make the score 5-2 but it was too little too late. Stolarz and the stingy Flyers defense cleaned up the rebounds and the front of the net, while the Panthers resorted to shooting and pray. The Flyers will take on either Hartford or the Rangers.
Other Series Results: Colorado 2:4 VANCOUVER San Jose 2:4 MINNESOTA Rangers 3:4 HARTFORD (Lower ranks have been dominating. Minnesota was Central's Third place team, Vancouver was the last Wild Card. We were the Metro's third place team, while the Whalers were a Wild Card.) It's anyone's Cup. Someone's either ending a curse or winning their 1st Cup. Not one division winner advanced past round 1, which really opened up the field. Chicago choked a 3-1 lead, Washington was manhandled by Hartford, Tampa blew up, Nashville choked and San Jose was the only "Favorite" to make it out of the 1st Round. We stomped Boston's slow defense into the ground and then ran over Florida after they lost Bjugstad, Trocheck and Huberdeau. Last edited by Nickflyers; 01-10-2017 at 03:36 PM. |

Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17) 2.0
Flyers vs Whalers Conference Finals Preview OFFENSE: This is a hard one to call. The Whalers have scored 43 Goals(3.58GPG) while the Flyers have scored 37(3.70) so goals will be scored. Hartford is led by former flyer Brayden Schenn who leads the league in scoring(8G-10A)(Go figure) while the Flyers are led by Sean Couturier's 11 Goals. The Whalers' Powerplay is playing out of this world with a 34.2%(Flyers are at 18.9%). Injuries have hit Hartford hard though as T.Teravainen is out till Game 5 with a fractured ankle, while Tyler Johnson is out indefinitely with a upper-body injury from Game 7 vs the Rangers. Flyers are surprisingly healthy. ADVANTAGE: PHILADELPHIA, the injuries to Teravainen and Johnson could be the factor DEFENSE: The Flyers have the best blueline out of all the teams remaining, but Hartford's Penalty Kill has not allowed a goal in 28 penalty kills(100%). If the Whalers can keep that up and score goals they can win. The Flyers, led by Provorov and Gostisbehere can shut down teams, and they face their toughest challenge this postseason. Kronwall leads all players with a +10 and Travis Sanheim is right there as well with a +8. Coach Hakstol has used them as his shut down unit. The third line of Gudas and Morin is a nightmare for teams. Both players can hit and hit HARD and are not afraid to use it, even if they take a penalty. Morin leads the Postseason with 19 Penalty minutes(2 fights) while Gudas has been more disciplined(10PIM). On the other side. Noah Hanifin has had a rough postseason, posting only 2 points, a -7 and 12 PIMs. Lucky for the Whalers Ryan Murphy and Jaccob Slavin have stepped up. Slavin leads with 6 points and +5. Justin Faulk is a deadly offensive dman who will jump into the play, but only has one goal. ADVANTAGE: PHILADELPHIA GOALTENDING: 12 Years ago Cam Ward was in the same skates as Anthony Stolarz. A young upstart team with some gritty vets and a goalie who stole the show. Cam Ward has been solid this postseason(8-4, 2.43GAA and 91.7SV%), can he find his 2006 Form and steal the show again? Anthony Stolarz took the job over from Mason prior to the post season and has taken the league by storm in ways no one could have predicted. GM Ron Hextall, who has had his fair shares of Playoff runs with the Flyers is ecstatic over Stolarz's play of late. "It's unbelievable, he is so in the zone, even in practice. When a goalie feels it, it's hard to explain, but everything becomes easy and things happen in your favor." Stolarz is currently 8-1 with a 1.64GAA and a 94.0SV%, there's only one other goalie who is this red hot and that's Vancouver's Ryan Miller(7-5, 1.98GAA and 94.4SV%) ADVANTAGE: PHILADELPHIA PHILADELPHIA WINS IF: They keep playing like they've been playnig, Stolarz stays hot, and the Powerplay solves the Whalers. HARTFORD WINS IF: Schenn continues to lead his team, and with the extra motivation of playing his former team that may be enough. Whalers Special Teams stay red hot and they solve Stolarz Prediction: PHILADELPHIA IN 6 |
