Seattle Drops Home Opener

Seattle's first win in franchise history will have to wait at least one more game as the Metropolitans [0-0-0] narrowly lost to the Philadelphia Flyers [0-1-0] in their home opener. Philadelphia struck twice in the first period on goals from Andrew MacDonald and Chris VandeVelde and it looked as if it was going to be a long night for the Metropolitans. The Mets would respond in the second period with THREE unanswered goals when Jonas Brodin, Sven Andrighetto, and Jaromir Jagr. Unfortunately for Seattle Ivan Provorov would pick up his first NHL goal for the Flyers to tie the game at 3 goals apiece. Sean Couturier would go on to beat former teammate Michal Neuvirth with just 27 seconds remaining to give the Anthony Stolarz his first NHL win and the Flyers their first win of the season. Michal Neuvirth turned in a tremendous game for the Metropolitans and was the only reason they had a fighting chance as they were outshot 47 to 17. Seattle also needs to be stay disciplined, as they handed the Flyers NINE power-play opportunities, two of which were converted.

Injury Report


Today it was released that third line centre Erik Haula has been injured in Seattle's home opener against the Philadelphia Flyers and will be week to week with an upper body injury. Haula appeared to be injured after taking a thunderous hit from Flyers' forward Wayne Simmonds midway through the first period of the contest. Haula would end up not returning to the game and is believed to be out with back spasms. Centre Jayson Megna has beeen called up to Seattle and will play make his debut next game as the team's fourth line centre. Meanwhile, Philipp Danault has been given a huge opportunity to impress the coaching staff down the middle on the third line.
