Re: The Captain Returns - NHL19 - Detroit Red Wings
Season 2018/19 October Report Overall Record: 6-6-0 Month Record: 6-6-0 Home Record: 3-2-0 Away Record: 3-4-0 Last 10 Games: 5-5-0 Current Streak: 1W League Standings: The month of October The Players: Leading Points: Mike Green -10 Leading Goals: Thomas Vanek - 4 Leading Assists: Mike Green - 8 Player Stats: Goalie Stats: Rookie Watch: League Leaders: Game Results & Team Updates:: October 4th, Columbus @ Detroit Opening night @ Litle Caesar’s and the Red Wings have pulled off an impressive 3-1 victory over the Blue Jackets. Despite only putting 21 shots on goal, the Red Wings were able to find that something extra which had been missing in the pre-season. Jimmy Howard stopped 27 shots on net on his way to earning tonight’s 1st star of the game. Mike Green scored the 1st Detroit goal of the season and was followed by Thomas Vanek, then Darren Helm to seal the game. 7th October, Detroit @ Los Angeles 1st Road game of the season & the Kings shutout the Red Wings in a 2-0 decision. Kings D-man Alec Martinez opened the Kings scoring early in the 1st and was followed in the 2nd period by A Kempe. For Jonathan Quick it was his 1st shutout for the season making 32 saves. The big blow and story for Detroit was netminder Jimmy Howard sustaining a concussion in a nasty collision mid-way through the 2nd period. New recruit Jonathan Bernier took to the crease for the remainder of the game making 10 saves from 11 shots. Although outshooting the Kings, the Wings looked easily held tonight. Detroit will regroup for tomorrow nights game @ Anaheim 8th October, Detroit @ Anaheim Detroit fail to put a goal on the board for the 2nd game straight, losing 2-0 tonight in Anaheim. Backup Goalie Harri Sateri was a surprise starter for the Red Wings & whilst he held his own making a modest 26 saves, there was not enough structure up front to put a goal on the board. Detroit will now travel home for 2 days rest and then will face the Toronto Maple Leafs 11th October, Toronto @ Detroit Detroit have handed Atlantic Division leaders, Toronto, their 1st loss for the season, winning 3-2 in the shootout. It was a game that nearly slipped away for the Wings when Tavares scored with only 43 seconds left in regulation. It was Tavares 2nd goal for the night. In the Shootout, Gus Nyquist scored, as did Dylan Larkin to seal the game. Larkin scored early in the 1st, with Mantha & Zadina getting the assist. Vanek Scored his goal in the 2nd. It was a good return to the lineup for Jimmy Howard, earning the game's 1st Star with 31 saves. Detroit hit the road again & will play Boston on the 13th. 13th October,Detroit @ Boston Detroit lose their 3rd straight road game, going down tonight to Boston 3-1. Nick Jenson scored the Wings lone goal late in the 1st but could not recover. Bruins David Pastrnak scored twice and Netminder Tukka Rask made 27saves. Jonathan Bernier had mixed night making 31 saves. The Red Wings get tomorrow off as they head to Montreal for their matchup on the 15th. 15th October, Detroit @ Montreal Blashill makes some changes to the lineup and it pays off tonight with the Red Wings defeating Montreal 4-1 on the road. Andreas Athanasiou opened the scoring in the 1 period tallying his 1st for the season. The lead was short lived with Andrew Shaw scoring early in the 2nd period. Anthony Mantha then tallied his 1st for the season also giving the Wings a 2-1 lead into the last break. Thomas Vanek scored 7:34 into the period and Gustav Nyquist scored an empty netter at the game’s end which finalised the score at 4-1. Vanek’s goal tonight is his 3rd for the season. Vanek leads the team in scoring with 4 points from 6 games. 18th October, Detroit @ Tampa Bay The Red Wings hang on to a nail biting 3-2 win over the Lightning in regulation. There was hype aplenty going into this game with Steve Yzerman facing his former team that he helped build. After goals from Mantha & Zadina in the 1st period, the Red Wings were keeping in front thanks to some great netminding from Johnathan Bernier. However, late in the 3rd period with just over 6 minutes remaining, Tampa were able to score & reduce the gap, thanks to a smart shot from Yanni Gourde. Then only 1:15 later, Steven Stamkos beat Bernier to tie the game. Enter Jonathan Ericsson’s slap shot with 3:32 remaining, which Andreas Athanasiou was able to deflect beating Bolt's Net minder, Louis Dominingue, stealing back the lead and ultimately the win. Again Bernier was great in net, making 29 saves. Detroit was only able to put 19 shots on goal, however the right shots counted. Tonight’s win gives the Wings a winning record of 4-3-0 so far this season. 20th October, Detroit @ Florida Detroit are no match for an aggressive Florida Panthers team going down 5-2 at end of regulation. Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov both tally 2 goals each with Huberdeau also amassing 3 assists in a extremely good night for him. Detroit outshot the Panthers 31 to 29 however could not affect the score board until late in the 3rd when Danny DeKeyser scored, then only 1:31 later, Thomas Vanek slotted another to give the Wings some credibility. Tough night for Bernier making 24 saves from 29. Trevor Daley sustained a major shoulder injury tonight after being checked hard by wingman Mike Hoffman and will likely miss the next few months of hockey.
A late rally from Detroit was enough and they go down 2-1 tonight to Carolina at home. Johnathan Bernier faced 41 shots tonight and held his own well, at the other end, former Detroit netminder Petr Mrazek faced 31 & stopping 30. Tyler Bertuzzi was the Wings only goal scorer for the game. 26th October, Winnipeg @ Detroit Jimmy Howard gets his 1st shutout for the season, helping Detroit beat a talented Winnipeg Jets team 2-0. Tyler Bertuzzi scored his 2nd goal in consecutive games to give Detroit a 1-0 lead going into the final period. Detroit then managed to hold of the Jets in the last and Jensen scored an empty net goal with 0:28 remaining. Calle Hellebuyck faced a storm tonight with 40 shots peppered at him, whilst Howard had a much easier night of it at the other end only facing 22 Jet's shots, however that was good enough. Johnathan Ericsson sustained minor concussion in tonight’s bout and will definitely miss the game in Dallas a couple days from now. 28th October, Dallas @ Detroit Dallas scrape together a gritty 4-3 victory in Detroit over the Red Wings. Tyler Bertuzzi scored the 1st goal of the game which also happens to be his 3rd in as many matches, however Dallas went on to score the next 4 of 5 goals to come out relatively easy winners. Frans Nielsen scored with only 4 seconds remaining in regulation to make the score seem closer than it was. Jimmy Howard caused more concern tonight only lasting 7:29 into the 1st period leaving the ice after sustaining an ankle injury, skating to the bench on one foot & in obvious pain. ....Breaking news 30th October, Detroit @ Columbus Detroit have dominated tonight’s fixture against a struggling Columbus Blue Jackets team, coming away with a 5-1 victory. Johnathan Bernier nearly had a shutout until Antemi Panarin Scored a late goal with 4:36 remaining. However story of the night goes to Filip Zadina who tonight scored 2 goals, plus earned an assist earlier to Jussi Jokinen’s goal. This is great sign for the youngster and his future ahead. Darren Helm was also impressive tonight tallying 3 assists. Wrap up: To go 6-6-0 in the 1st month is reasonably impressive with the roster on hand. Started the season the right way winning the season opener at home against Columbus which makes me even happier, considering the pre-season wasn't so great. Already have some injury woes with Daley out for 2 months and Howard out for a month. Luckily we have Johnathan Bernier to mind the net, he was possibly one of the smarter pickups we made during this off-season. Have been keeping a close eye on Zadina who has made a steady start to his career. Initially we had him on the 1st line with Larkin & Mantha, however after the Boston game, he was moved down to the 4th line and has made steady progress since. Currently Detroit is tied 6th last in the league for goals scored. Production from the players who need to perform has been reasonably poor. Hoping players such as Larkin, Mantha & Nyquist can lift as the season progresses. As it Stands, the team is relying heavily on Thomas Vanek's scoring ability. It's great that he is putting he puck in the net, however he needs support. Another big month coming up, the next game is at home against an up & coming New Jersey Devils, which should be a good one to watch. Injuries: 7th October - G Jimmy Howard - Mild Concussion - missed 1 game 20th October - D Trevor Daley - Seperated Shoulder our until 31st December. 26th October - D Johnathan Ericsson - Mild Concussion - missed 2 games 28th October - G Jimmy Howard - Out until 6th December Contract Extensions: Nil Call Ups/ Assignments: 8th October, G Harri Sateri - Called up from Grand Rapids 28th October - D Joe Hicketts - Called up from Grand Rapids Projected Lines - New Jersey @ Detroit |

Re: The Captain Returns - NHL19 - Detroit Red Wings
Season 2018/19 November Report Overall Record: 13-12-0 Month Record: 7-6-0 Home Record: 8-6-0 Away Record: 5-6-0 Last 10 Games: 5-5-0 Current Streak: 1L League Standings: The Month of November: The Players: Leading Points: Gustav Nyquist & Filip Zadina - 17 Leading Goals: Gustav Nyquist 9 Leading Assists: Frans Nielsen 12 General Manager’s Player of the Month: Filip Zadina Player Stats: Goalie Stats: Rookie Watch: League Leaders: Game Results, News & Team Updates:: 1st November, New Jersey @ Detroit New Jersey were just too good tonight, toppling Detroit 5-2 by the final siren. Miles Wood & Taylor Hall did the main damage for the Devils, both scoring 2 goals apiece. Wings veteran forward, Jussi Jokinen, scored the 1st goal of the game whilst Frans Nielsen leveled the scores at 2-2 in the 2nd period. From there however the Devils ran away with the game. Johnathan Bernier had an average night in net, saving 29 from 34 shots, however he had little support from his Defensemen. 3 Stars of the Game: 3rd November, Edmonton @ Detroit After another shakeup of the lineup by coach Jeff Blashill, the Red Wings have produced a thrilling 5-4 OT win over the Oilers at home. Dylan Larkin was the eventual hero of the game, scoring the OT winner with 1:06 remaining. Larkin tallied 2 goals in tonight’s matchup, playing with new line mates, Thomas Vanek & Justin Abdelkader. Larkin’s 3 point game is a welcome sight given his slow start to this season. Gustav Nyquist also made the most of his reassignment to the 2nd line, scoring in the 3rd period. Harri Sateri was in net tonight for the Red Wings, earning himself his 1st victory for the season. For Edmonton it was a chance gone begging as they managed to tie the game late in the 3rd period from a late Leon Drasaitl goal, in the very least they take away a handy point. 3 Stars of the Game: 6th November, Vancouver @ Detroit Vancouver comes to town and leaves empty handed with Detroit winning 3-0. Rookie netminder Harri Sateri more than stood his ground as he recorded his 1st career NHL shutout. At the other end Anthony Mantha finally found some form with a brilliant 2 goal effort, plus he recorded an assist to Dylan Larkin’s goal. Gustav Nyquist got his tally moving with 2 assists. All 3 Detroit goals tonight were scored from rebounding pucks, something which the Red Wings have struggled to capitalise with all season. The Wings are 2-1-0 in this current home stand, they have one more home game to come against the Rangers on the 9th. 3 Stars of the Game: 9th November, NY Rangers @ Detroit Fortunes are reversed tonight at Little Caesars Arena, the New York Rangers shutout Detroit in a 3-0 victory. Kris Kreider was the thorn in the side for the Detroit Defense, scoring a goal plus an assist. Rangers Goalie Henrik Lundquist records another shutout to his impressive resume’, stopping all 26 Detroit shots on goal. Harri Sateri still did well in net for the Wings, making 35 saves from 37 shots faced. The Rangers 3rd goal coming from an empty net near end of regulation. 3 Stars of the Game: 10th November, Detroit @ Carolina Detroit lose their 2nd consecutive game going down 3-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. ‘Canes veteran wingman Justin Williams scored 2 goals, with recent addition, D-man Dougie Hamilton scoring late in the 3rd to put the game beyond doubt. Jonathan Ericsson was Detroit’s lone goal scorer. Johnathan Bernier did not have a return he hoped for, tallying another loss. 3 Stars of the Game: 13th November, Arizona @ Detroit A better effort put in tonight by the Red Wings as they put away Arizona 3-0. Johnathan Bernier has a quieter night in net but managed to stop all 24 shots on net. At the other end it was much busier with Detroit putting up 39 shots on net, with great goals from Anthony Mantha, Gustav Nyquist & Martin Frk. 3 Stars of the Game: 15th November, Detroit @ Ottawa A 4 goal run between the 1st & 2nd periods was the catalyst for a big 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on the road, including 2 goals from rookie Filip Zadina & a big 4 point night for Gustav Nyquist finishing with 2 goals, 2 assists. Zadina has been the quiet achiever for much of the season and sits amongst Detroit’s top point scorers so far. Nyquist has been very quiet to this point & was very promising to see him put some numbers on the board. It was a great effort also put in by Anthony Mantha who scored in the 1st adding to his growing tally. However there was bad news to come out of tonight with veteran Thomas Vanek leaving the ice in the 2nd with what appears to be possibly a fractured ankle. It is a big blow for the veteran who had been playing very well to this point. Ottawa put up 36 shots on net compared to Detroit’s 30, however were not able to further capitalise. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
Detroit seal a 5-4 OT win over New Jersey thanks to a slick wrist shot from Mike Green only 34 seconds into the extra time. The Wings possibly should have won in regulation however Devils forward, Markus Johansson, stole the show, scoring to tie the game 4-4 with 52 seconds left in regulation. It was another good night for Detroit forwards with Frk, Nyquist & Zadina scoring 1 apiece. Defenseman Nick Jensen was the Wings other scorer. With tonight’s victory, the Detroit Red Wings move to a record of 11-9-0, currently placing them as the 2nd Wild Card in the East. 3 Stars of the Game: 21st November, Boston @ Detroit Despite Boston staging a sizeable comeback in the 3rd period, Detroit holds on for a 5-4 victory. The game all but looked to be shutdown and over for the counting, with Detroit having a commanding 5-1 lead at the end of the 2nd period. Boston rallied however it was all a little too late. Mantha & Athanasiou had a dream night, both posting 2 goals each with Mike Green nailing the 5th. 4 Detroit players - Zadina, Larkin, Frk & Abdelkader all tallied 2 assists each in a great show of skills throughout the game. Zadina’s 2 assists now puts the rookie at the very top of Detroit’s point scoring on the roster with 17 points (6goals, 11assists). Tonight’s win extends Detroit’s streak to 4 in a row. Their next opponent however, Washington will be the toughest opponent faced so far to this point. 3 Stars of the Game: 23rd November, Detroit @ Washington Detroit’s win streak comes to an end, going down in a 3-0 shutout loss to the defending Stanley Cup Champions, Washington. John Carlson opened the scoring for the Caps in the 1st period, with Alex Ovechkin scoring in the 2nd & 3rd periods. Wings netminder, John Bernier had a busy night facing 38 shots, compared to Braden Holtbys 27 in which he stopped of them, handing him a shutout. 3 Stars of the Game: 24th November, Buffalo @ Detroit Detroit sink to a 2nd straight loss as they are annihilated at home 8-2 by Buffalo. Buffalo’s big run occurred in the 3rd period when they piled on 5 straight goals in a very short lapse. Harri Sateri who started for the Wings was changed out for Bernier when the score was 6-1, however Bernier did not fare any better, letting in 2 of the 1st 4 shots he faced. A game both Wings goalies would rather forget. Not much went Detroit’s way during the game, Darren Helm scored in the 2nd period & it appeared to be all they would get, until Andreas Athanasiou scored late in the 3rd when the energy had already left the game. For the Sabres, Kyle Okposo scored 2 goals, plus an assist & Jack Eichel also tallied 2 goals which puts the Sabres season back on the rails. The Red Wings will regroup after a days rest and will face a struggling Columbus at home again. 3 Stars of the Game: 26th November, Columbus @ Detroit Gustav Nyquist scores a hat-trick in front of the Detroit home crowd and guides the Red Wings onto a commanding 5-1 victory over the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets. Johnathan Bernier almost had the shutout complete until a very late goal from Jacket’s Cam Atkinson, however it was still a stellar performance put on with 32 saves made. Frans Nielsen also put in a good night with 1 goal and 2 assists. Luke Glendening scored his 1st points for the season & what a way to do it, notching 3 assists. The game was not without worry, with Filip Zadina leaving the ice very early in the 1st period gripping his shoulder. He did not return to the game. Zadina’s injury occurred during a check into the boards from Blue Jackets Defenseman, Seth Jones. Tonight’s victory is Detroit’s 3rd straight win in 3 meetings against the Blue Jackets this season. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News..... Despite a 2 goal effort from Dylan Larkin, Detroit goes down 4-2 to the St Louis Blues at home. Larkin scored the game’s 1st goal in the 1st period however an equaliser by Ryan O’Reilly a little later and then 2 goals scored by Tarasenko and Fabri in the 2nd period put the game in doubt. Larkin then scored again late in the 2nd, however again the game was put to bed by a late Blues, Colton Parayko goal with 3:27 remaining to finalise the score. 3 Stars of the Game: Wrap up: 2nd month of hockey down and I do believe this team is doing much better than I anticipated, I certainly did not expect to have won more games than lost. (Especially considering I have only physically played 3 games to date, all the rest is simulated) Some of the stars on the team have finally started to fire - which was really important when Vanek went down with a fractured ankle. Nyquist went from one of the worse performers on the list to the best in very short fashion, his stylish hat-trick seems to have sparked a patch of good form. I’m very happy with Filip Zadina, I have left him on the 2nd line with Athanasiou & Martin Frk as they appear to get very well on the ice together. I was relieved that he had a playable injury after the knock in the game against Columbus. Even though it was playable I was not prepared to risk losing him for longer so the call was made to rest him against the Blues & then return him to the lineup on the very next game on the 1st December. Jimmy Howard is due to return at the beginning of December which should see Sateri sent back to Grand Rapids. The Griffins have missed him terribly, going from a record of 6-0-2 before he left for Detroit, to now a record of 9-10-2 (3-10-0 in his absence in net!) Roll on December! Injuries: 20th October (Ongoing) - D Trevor Daley - Seperated Shoulder our until 31st December. 28th October (Ongoing) - G Jimmy Howard - Out until 6th December 15th November – LW – Thomas Vanek – Fractured Ankle. Out Until January 26th November – RW – Filip Zadina – Shoulder Injury – Missed 1 game. Returning 1st December. Contract Extensions: Nil Call Ups/ Assignments: Scout Report: Good to know…. Projected Lines – Detroit @ Boston

Re: The Captain Returns - NHL19 - Detroit Red Wings
Season 2018/19 December Report Overall Record: 22-18-1 Month Record: 9-6-1 Home Record: 12-9-0 Away Record: 10-9-1 Last 10 Games: 6-3-1 Current Streak: 4W League Standings: The Month of December The Players: Leading Points: Dylan Larkin - 30 Leading Goals: Gustav Nyquist - 16 Leading Assists: Dylan Larkin - 22 General Manager’s Player of the Month: Gustav Nyquist Player Stats: Goalie Stats: Rookie Watch: League Leaders: Game Results, News & Team Updates:: 1st December, Detroit @ Boston A bizarre own goal from Dylan Larkin has ultimately cost the game for Detroit tonight, going down to the Boston Bruins 4-2. The game started exceptionally well for the Wings, when only 2:32 into the 1st period, Filip Zadina netted a brilliant 3 on 1 goal thanks to a blazing Martin Frk pass. 15 minutes later Into the same period is when disaster struck for Larkin & the Wings. Whilst on the power play, Larkin chased the loose puck down to the left hand corner in the Wings defensive zone, which had just been dumped by Boston forward, Joakim Nordstrom. Upon collecting the puck, Larkin passed the puck across the goal face to Niklas Kronwall. However, the puck hit Goalie, Johnathan Bernier’s pads, and deflected backwards into the goal giving the Bruins a bizarre short handed goal that had zero offensive pressure applied at all. The momentum in the Wings run was stalled and weren’t able to get back on top. David Pastrnak scored the next 2 goals for the Bruins in an impressive showing from him. Detroit will dust themselves off from this one and regroup for tomorrow night’s game back at home against the Avalanche. 3 Stars of the Game: 2nd December, Colorado @ Detroit The Red Wings are able to turnaround the misfortunes of last night’s loss and have soundly defeated the Avalanche 4-1 at home. Colorado star forward Nate McKinnon opened the scoring in the 2nd period beating Bernier over the glove from a smooth wrist shot, giving the Avs a 1-0 lead. However the lead did not last long with Veteran D-man Mike Green beating Avs Goalie Semyon Varlamov to level it at 1-1 by the end of the 2nd period. From there the Wings went on to score 3 more goals with Gus Nyquist, rookie Filip Zadina & Glendening netting the majors to lock the game away. Johnathan Bernier was great in net, making 27saves and earning the 1st star of the game. Detroit will play host again in 2 nights time against the Tampa Bay Lightning. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
Detroit drop a tough one at home losing 4-2 to Tampa Bay. After a goalless 1st period, Anthony Mantha found the back of the net to give the Wings a 1-0 lead only 0:47 into the 2nd period. However Steven Stamkos would end the party mid-way through the 2nd, scoring on Bernier and tying the scores going into the last period. The Lightning then went on to score 2 goals within 26 seconds which handed them the game. Evgeny Svechnikov scores late for the Red Wings to make the score 3-2, however in the final dying seconds of the game, Nikita Kucherov was able to find the empty net to cap the game at 4-2. 3 Stars of the Game: 6th December, Detroit @ Toronto Detroit have upset one of the league’s best, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 at home. Jimmy Howard played & started his 1st game since October making a miraculous 37 saves which helped drive the Wings to victory Filip Zadina, Gus Nyquist and Niklas Kronwall put goals on the board for the Wings whilst Morgan Reilly scored the Leafs line goal. Zadina continues a great rookie season finishing the night with a goal plus an assist whilst Martin Frk tallied 2 assists. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
8th December, NY Islanders @ Detroit Detroit have dropped a crucial home game, losing tonight to the league's bottom placed New York Islanders, 3-0. In only his 2nd game back from the sidelines, Jimmy Howard has sustained yet another injury, this time only 7:25 into the 1st period. The 34 year old net minder is suspected to have sustained a minor hip injury after a hard fall to the ice whilst making a save. Consistency is certainly an issue with the Red Wings, having only just come from a road win beating a number of the best teams in the league, to being shutout at home by the team with the worse record. The loss moves Detroit’s season record to 15-15-0 and slides them to 7th in the Central Division. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
The Red Wings answer some critics by toppling the LA Kings 4-1 at home. In a much better display by the whole team, Johnathan Bernier made 29 saves on his way to a win. Martin Frk was on point, tallying 2 goals including an empty netter, to put the result beyond doubt, whilst Filip Zadina tallied an assist in each of Frk's goals. Dylan Larkin & Anthony Mantha were the other 2 contributors to the scoreboard. The Wings now fly to Washington to take on Stanley Cup defending champs, the Capitals. 3 Stars of the Game: 11th December, Detroit @ Washington The Red Wings have defeated current league leaders, Washington, 3-2 on the road. It did not look good for Detroit early on with Bernier conceding a goal only 12 seconds into the 1st period, then followed up by a 2nd goal at only 4:51. The Wings regrouped and in the very same period, young talented winger, Evgeny Svechnikov scored on Braden Holtby, then only another 2:25 later, centerman, Andreas Athanasiou, scored to tie the game. Neither team scored in the 2nd period & then with 11:36 remaining in the 3rd, Anthony Mantha knocked in a rebounded puck past Holtby, to give the Red Wings the lead and ultimately the win. Tonight’s huge win completes a successful spilt home/away double header & propels the Wings to a record of 17-15-0. 3 Stars of the Game: 14th December, Ottawa @ Detroit Detroit holds on to the win with a 6-5 shootout victory over the Ottawa Senators. Gustav Nyquist scored his 2nd hat-trick for the season in a more than brilliant effort from him. His hat-trick goal came 4:12 into the 3rd period with the Wings holding a commanding 5-2 lead, which most would have thought was the final count for the Sens. They weren’t done yet, with 3 goals scored by Wideman, Tierney & MacArthur in the space of 8 minutes to tie the game 5-5 to nearly put a dampner on Nyquist's big night. Neither team could capitalise in overtime & it was a lone shootout goal from Anthony Mantha that produced the win for the Red Wings. Tonight, Dylan Larkin finished with 4 assists, whilst Mantha had 1 goal 2 assists & Nyquist 3 goals 1 assist - a huge night for the 1st line. Tonight’s victory is Detroit’s 3rd win in a row and they head to the Barclays Center tomorrow night to seek redemption against the bottom placed NY Islanders. 3 Stars of the Game: 15th December, Detroit @ NY Islanders The NY Islanders have Detroit rattled once again shutting out the Red Wings 2-0. Jordan Eberle scored both goals for the Islanders as the Islanders dominated, putting 37 shots on net to Detroit’s 25. This game's final result has GM Steve Yzerman scratching his head after taking on & beating teams the likes of Washington & Toronto ,yet they have capitulated for the 2nd time in the same month, both times scoreless, against the league's bottom team. 3 Stars of the Game: 18th December, Detroit @ Philadelphia Detroit lose a real tough game in the shootout against Philadelphia, the final score 5-4. The biggest story to come from tonight’s game for Wings fans was the injury to Dylan Larkin only 2:27 into the 1st period. Larkin appeared to strain his left hamstring whilst on the ice during his 2nd shift. The young alternate Captain clearly looked uncomfortable & he soon left for the locker room. The Flyers proved too good early on with Sean Couturier capitalising on some poor Detroit penalties, scoring twice on the power play. The Wings put up a great fight despite having lost their no.1 Centerman so early in the game. They kept with the Flyers most of the game however it looked to be all over for the counting with the score in the Flyers favour 4-3, when with only 4.3 seconds remaining in play, veteran d-man Mike Green, scored the Game Tying goal, sending the game into overtime. Green's shot, a slap shot near the blue line, beat Flyers Goalie, Michal Neuvirth, over the shoulder which sent the Detroit bench into hysterics. Neither team could capitalise in overtime & the game led to the shootout. Green & Zadina would score for Detroit, however the Flyers kept it level with shootout goals from Claude Giroux & Wayne Simmons. Ultimatey the player who was hot all night, Sean Couturier, would then score to give the Flyers the 5-4 edge in the 6th round. The Wings now have a hole to fill at Center with Larkin likely missing next game against the Carolina Hurricanes in 2 days time. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
The Red Wings are outclassed with a 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes tonight on the road. Johnathan Bernier was busy in net for the Wings facing 38 shots and making 35 saves. At the other end, it was an easier night for former Red Wing Goalie, Petr Mrazek, only facing 23 shots from a luck-lustre Detroit offense. Canes forwards Teuvo Teravainen, Brock McGinn & rookie Andrei Svechnikov were instrumental in tonight’s big victory. The Wings will now head home for a split home / road double header, facing Florida at home on the 22nd, then they face the Maple Leafs in Toronto on the 23rd. 3 Stars of the Game: 22nd December, Florida @ Detroit The Red Wings have dropped their 4th game in a row with a 4-1 loss at home to division rivals, the Florida Panthers. In what has been a hard time getting consistent ice time through injury for veteran Jimmy Howard, he gets the start tonight on yet another return to duty, however he does not fare any better with the Panthers 1st line forwards, Evgenii Dadanov & Nick Bjugstadt featuring in picking the Detroit defensive efforts apart. Filip Zadina was the Wings only scorer, with a late goal in the 1st period. There is no time to lick wounds, as the Wings hit the road for tomorrow night's game in Toronto against the Leafs. 3 Stars of the Game: 23rd December, Detroit @ Toronto Detroit dig deep and pick up a 3-1 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs on the 2nd night of a home/away double header. Tonight’s win also puts an end to a 4 game slide (0-3-1) in which the Wings have been struggling to find form. Luke Glendening scored his 2nd goal in 2 games, which gave the Wings a 1-0 lead mid-way through the 1st period. The scores remained the same right through to the 3rd period, until Detroit Captain Niklas Kronwall scored to put the Wings up 2-0. Leafs winger, Kasperi Kapanen then scored the home team's only goal for the game not long after, however Andreas Athanasiou - who has had extra responsibilities with Larkin’s absence - scored with 0:57 remaining in the game to put the result beyond doubt. Jimmy Howard’s 2nd start in 2 days bore more fruit, handing him his 1st win in quite some time, plus he stopped 26 shots on his way to being tonight’s 1st star of the game. Tonight’s win now gives the Red Wings a record of 19-18-1. The Red Wings now have the next 3 days off to enjoy the Christmas break and then will be back to action in Pittsburgh to take on Sidney Crosby & the Penguins. There will also be some relief in sight with Dylan Larkin set to return from his hamstring injury & reports have it that Trevor Daley may be ready to return to the ice, which will certainly bolster the team's defensive pool. 3 Stars of the Game: 27th December, Detroit @ Pittsburgh Detroit have taken it to another top team in the NHL, Defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 2-1 shootout victory. The Red Wings had 2 big inclusions into the lineup tonight with Dylan Larkin & Trevor Daley both testing fit and it seems to have made an impact with Larkin scoring the game winning shootout goal. During regular time Gustav Nyquist scored in the 2nd period, to give the Red Wings the lead, before Phil Kessel tied it up 1-1 in the same period. It was a brilliant night for Howard making 37 saves. There was concern however for Matt Murray of the Penguins leaving the ice in the 2nd period due to an upper body injury, with Tristan Jarry replacing him. Both Penguins Netminder's were instrumental in the close result & both were rewarded with making the 3 stars of the game awards, making this an exceptionally rare goalie sweep. 3 Stars of the Game: 29th December, Detroit @ Dallas Detroit have had another field day on the road, toppling the Dallas Stars 4-1. Dallas opened the night’s scoring with a laser from Tyler Seguin giving the Stars an early lead. However Detroit’s 1st line of Larkin, Mantha & Nyquist all combined to score a goal each, as well as a well timed goal from Martin Frk to put the Stars out of commission. Rookie Filip Zadina was exceptional with his passing skill, tallying 3 assists in tonight’s big win. Jimmy Howard continues a great run, once again taking the games 1st star award making 29 saves. 3 Stars of the Game: 31st December, Florida @ Detroit The Red Wings close out December & 2018 with a 3-2 victory at home against the Panthers. Anthony Mantha was inspirational for his team and made it count on the board with a goal and an assist. Martin Frk & Jonathan Ericsson were the Wing’s other 2 scorers. Detroit now has 4 consecutive wins strung together and they have put themselves back in the playoffs race, currently sitting in 8th in the Atlantic Standings with a record of 22-18-1 3 Stars of the Game: Wrap up: An interesting month & exceptionally impressed with the team considering the injuries the team has had to cover, plus the apparent lack of talent overall in the camp. We seem to be winning the games we are meant to lose and we are losing the games we are meant to win. Consistency is the main issue - the team comes out to play against teams like Washington, Pittsburgh, Toronto, & Florida, yet all momentum disappears, against bottom dwelling teams such as the New York Islanders, who beat us 3-0 & 2-0 this month. The month wrapped up with the return of Dylan Larkin, Jimmy Howard & Trevor Daley. Next month, the team is further bolstered again with the return of veteran wingman, Thomas Vanek. The team is seemingly driving me close to being stuck between a rock & a hard place. On paper & in theory we are a rebuiling team, however we are dancing feverishly close to being a playoff contender (through no help of my own, I lost both games I played this month lol) & one of my secondary objectives assigned by the team owners, is to shed some salary cap to the tune of nearly $5M (currently we are approx $74.5M & the owner wants the roster trimmed to about $70M). This becomes a very hard task if we need to build up the team & bolster lines as a playoff contender. I am on the lookout for some bargains come trade deadline time, however most plans to date have only considered the rebuild line. Anaheim, Columbus & Washington are all offering young, potentially Top4 D-men, all of which are on entry level contracts & wither one of them would be a great asset to the team moving forward in season's to come. Let's see where January & February take us. Injuries: 15th November (Ongoing) – LW – Thomas Vanek – Fractured Ankle. Out Until January - missed 22 games 6th December - G - Jimmy Howard - Bruised Hip - Missed 2 games 20th December - C - Dylan Larkin.- Strained Hamstring - Missed 3 games Contract Extensions: 6th December - G Jimmy Howard - Accepted 2yr Extension - $2.55M per year 8th December - RW - Gustav Nyquist - Accepted 4yr Extension - $4.45M per year Call Ups/ Assignments: 3rd December - G - Harri Sateri sent to minors 8th December - G - Patrick Rybar called up to Detroit 14th December - D - Joe Hicketts sent to minors 14th December - D - Filip Hronek called up to Detroit 22nd December - G - Patrick Rybar sent to minors Projected Lines -

Re: The Captain Returns - NHL19 - Detroit Red Wings
Season 2018/19 January Report Overall Record: 25-24-2 Month Record: 3-6-1 Home Record: 13-13-0 Away Record: 12-11-2 Last 10 Games: 3-6-1 Current Streak: 1W League Standings: The Month of January: The Players: Leading Points: Anthony Mantha - 37 Leading Goals: Gustav Nyquist - 19 Leading Assists: Dylan Larkin - 25 General Manager’s Player of the Month: Mike Green Player Stats: Goalie Stats: Rookie Watch: League Leaders: Game Results, News & Team Updates:: 2nd January, Calgary @ Detroit Detroit’s win streak extends to 5 games, with tonight’s solid 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames at home. Detroit led 3-2 in the 3rd period until late, when Calgary pulled their goalie. Justin Abdelkader managed to take the loose puck and score on the empty net to make the score 4-2. Very next play, Abdelkader again got the loose puck and on the breakaway, he netted his 2nd goal for the game. Both goals were the 1st 2 of the season for him, in which has been a very quiet year for the alternate Captain. Earlier in the game, Anthony Mantha & Gustav Nyquist both scored, plus assisted each other in their respective goals. Tyler Bertuzzi scored the Wings 3rd goal, thanks to a brilliant laser pass on the breakaway from Evgeny Svechnikov. 3 Stars of the Game: 4th January, Nashville @ Detroit The Red Wings win streak comes to an end at 5 with tonight’s sound 4-1 loss to a surging Nashville Predators. The Pred's, who seemingly have begun a turnaround of their season, after languishing in last place in the Central Divison, were just too good with Filip Forsberg opening the scoring in the 1st period, followed by 2nd period goals from Fiala & Jarnkrok. Thomas Vanek got one back for the Wings later in the same period however Connor Brickley scored for the Preds, in the 3rd period, locking the game away. Detroit outshot the Nashville 42 to 26, however clearly converting opportunities was an issue tonight. Nashville are currently 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, they are still last in Central Division standings, however they have closed the gap to their opponents & it will not be surprising to see them advance up the ladder. 3 Stars of the Game: 6th January, Washington @ Detroit The Wings drop their 2nd consecutive game against another very tough opponent, going down 4-2 to the Capitals. Defenseman Dmitry Orlov & the man himself, Alex Ovechkin both score 2 each for the Caps in what almost seemed a result that was certain early on. Filip Zadina & Thomas Vanek scored for the Wings, with Jimmy Howard taking his 2nd consecutive loss making only 17 saves from 21 shots faced. Caps all-star net minder Braden Holtby was solid at the other end with 28 saves. Detroit have one more game left in this current 5 game home stand & they will take on the Canadiens on the 8th. 3 Stars of the Game: 8th January, Montreal @ Detroit Max Domi dominates with 2 goals, giving the Montreal Canadiens enough boost to edge out Detroit, dealing the home side with a 3-2 loss. The Red Wings 5 game home stand comes to a close at 2-3-0, having won the 1st 2 games but then dropping the next 3. Coach Jeff Blashill elected to go with Johnathan Bernier in net tonight and it did not seem to pay off with Bernier adding another loss to his not so great season tally. Filip Zadina was crunched against the boards and left the game early in the 2nd period with a suspected minor concussion. This is the 2nd knock the talented young forward has taken in the season. D-man Mike Green managed to tie the game at 1-1 in the 1st period with a great deflection in front of Carey Price & Thomas Vanek scored in the 3rd period, making the score 3-2 to give the Wings some hope, however certainly wasn’t to be in tonight’s game. Detroit now hit the road with a road double header, against the Jets on the 11th & then the Wild on the 12th. 3 Stars of the Game: 11th January, Detroit @ Winnipeg Winnipeg are way too strong at home for Detroit, handing out a 4-1 defeat. The stats on the sheet tell the story with Winnipeg controlling the lion share of the puck in their offensive half, outshooting Detroit 45 to 18. Bernier was very busy tonight & the consolation was that the net minder made 42 saves with Tanev’s goal in the last period coming from an empty net. Filip Zadina sat this one out, needing one more day to recover from his minor concussion, it is expected that he will play tomorrow night. Matthieu Perreault had an outstanding game, scoring twice in the 1st period, which set the set the scene for the remainder of the game. Mike Green was the only scorer for the Red Wings, this being his 2nd goal in consecutive games. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
12th January, Detroit @ Minnesota The Red Wings slide continues, however they do pick up a point in tonight’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild. After trailing 2-0 at the completion of the 1st period, Filip Zadina scored on return from his mild concussion & so did Dylan Larkin to level the game at 2-2. Wild’s Nino Niederreiter scored. With 12:38 remaining in the 3rd to give the Wild the lead once more. However the Wings put up some more fight & produced a goal from Gustav Nyquist, with only 4:38 remaining in regulation. No one was able to capitalise in overtime & it was Joel Ericsson-Ek who scored the only shootout goal to give the Wild a big victory. The Wings escape with a point, however they are now on a 0-4-1 run since winning 5 straight prior. 3 Stars of the Game: 15th January, Anaheim @ Detroit Duck’s defenseman, Nick Ritchie has blasted a slap shot past the ear of Jimmy Howard with 50 seconds remaining in the 3rd period, to give the Duck’s the edge and a 3-1 loss to the Red Wings. With the score locked at 1-1 in the dying minute of regulation, Ritchie let loose a scorching puck that beat Howard over his right shoulder, to give the Ducks the 2-1 lead. Wings coach, Jeff Blashill pulled Howard for the remainder of the game, however the plan backfired with Cam Fowler taking advantage and scored on the empty net with 0:33 remaining. Mike Green scored the Wings only goal which came only 0:45 seconds into the 1st period. From there the Ducks had control in their defensive zone, ultimately handing the Red Wings their 6th straight loss. 3 Stars of the Game: Breaking News.....
18th January, Detroit @ Calgary Detroit finally snap their losing streak with an exciting 5-4 Overtime Win over Calgary . It was team Captain Niklas Kronwall who came to save the day for Detroit, nailing a perfect wrist shot from the middle slot, beating Mike Smith stick side. The game had everything, with the Wings holding a 2-1 lead after the 1st with goals from Helm & Witkowski. Calgary would then score 2 goals to Detroit's 1 in the 2nd period to tie the game 3-3 before going into the 3rd period. Flames D-man Brett Kulak scored early in the 3rd period to give the Flames the lead, however Dylan Larkin again tied the game 4-4 with 15:33 remaining. The rest of the period would go scoreless & the game went into overtime. The Saddle Dome crowd weren’t left wondering as the visitors seized on Calgary's loose OT defense with Kronwall’s game winning goal. In yet more trouble for Jimmy Howard, the veteran goaltender left the ice near the end of regulation time with what appeared to be a sore arm. Bernier replaced him in Overtime, however he was not needed as the Flames did not manage a shot on net in OT. The Wings now have 2 more games remaining prior to the All-Star break, facing the Canucks in Vancouver on the 20th, then they will face the Oilers in Edmonton on the 22nd. 3 Stars of the Game: 20th January, Detroit @ Vancouver A late Goal from Nyquist isn’t enough for the Red Wings as they struggle to get going, losing 2-1 against an equally struggling Canucks side. Vancouver held a tight 1-0 lead going into the 3rd period and then increased the lead to 2-0 when Christopher Tanev was able to find the net on Bernier. It appeared the Wings may get shut out until Nyquist’s late goal with 4:12 sparked some hope in the visiting side. Ultimately the Canucks held on & Detroit’s seemingly bad form continues. Bernier played well for the Red Wings making 29 saves however Thatcher Demko was just as good at the other end for the Canucks, making 25 saves from 26 shots on net. 3 Stars of the Game: 22nd January, Detroit @ Edmonton Detroit have eked out a much needed 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. Tonight’s win is a perfect finish to the month with All-Star break now taking effect, giving teams some much needed rest. Martin Frk scored in the 1st period to give the Wings a 1-0 lead going into the 2nd period. Dylan Larkin then scored with 17:25 remaking to give Detroit a 2-0 lead. However only 1:14 later Oiler’s Oscar Klefbom reduced the gap to 2-1. Darren Helm then later scored to give the Red Wings a Very handy 3-1 going into the 3rd period. Goalie Harri Sateri who replaced Jimmy Howard after yet another injury held the Oilers down to 1 goal for almost the whole game until Leon Drasaitl scored to reduce the gap to 3-2, however the game was soon Detroit’s. The Red Wings go into the All-Star weekend break with a record of 25-24-2. 3 Stars of the Game: 25th - 26th January 2019 - All Star Weekend in San Jose * No games from 22nd January through to the 31st January due to All-star Break. Wrap up: Whatever ground was made in December was quickly lost in January. Detroit slumped to only 3 wins from a shortened 10 game month. Finally (& sadly) some the expected results were playing out such as the loss to a rejuvenated Nashville Predators. Jimmy Howard can not take a break, he has been injured 3 times already, making me consider leaving Harri Sateri in the Red Wings roster, lets hope he can keep heathy for a bit. Still happy with Zadina's progress, however I feel I might have to change him onto another line. His time with Andreas Athanasiou & Martin Frk has been excellent, however the last 6 or so games has seen him falter in production. The trade deadline fast approaches on the 26th February. Unless we are in a certifiable position to make playoffs, I can not see us making trades that are focused on the now rather than the future. The Red Wings have a long path to tread and we do not need to make 1 step forward & two steps back. As such, I also do not think there will be more than 1-2 changes come deadline, unless there are some serious carrots dangled. However as I mentioned during last month's report, I have my eye on bringing in a young defenseman to help rebuild the aging core. To execute such a move may ideally mean moving an older d-man (either DeKeyser, Green or Kronwall) plus other assets, however I will see whats on offer when the craziness begins. Players that are currently on the trading block that potentially fit our needs are Anaheim's Marcus Petterson, Columbus's Gabriel Carlsson & Washington's Lucas Johansen. Injuries: 8th January, RW - Filip Zadina - Mild Concusion - Missed 1 game 18th January, G - Jimmy Howard - Sore Arm - Missed 2 games Contract Extensions: Nil. Several players are asking for extensions, however at this stage, we are likely to hold off all negotiations until the season's end. Call Ups/ Assignments: 18th January, G - Harri Sateri called up to Detroit. Projected Lines for next game - Toronto @ Detroit |

Re: The Captain Returns - NHL19 - Detroit Red Wings
With the season just over half way through, lets see how our AHL Affiliate, Grand Rapids, are faring....
Season 2018/19 Grand Rapids Griffins Update Feature Game: Grand Rapids @ Texas Stars We join Grand Rapids on night #1 of a road double header weekend. They take on the Texas Stars. Projected Lines: GAME RESULT & RECAP- See Pictures Inside
Spoiler
31st January, Grand Rapids @ Texas
The Griffins have stormed home to beat the Texas Stars 6-3, scoring 5 straight goals to be convincing winners. Griffins forward, Carter Camper claimed 1st blood in the 1st period, putting the Griffins up 1-0. The Griffin's would take this lead into the 2nd period. However as the 2nd period began Stars forward, Jason Dickinson, didn't waste any time from the puck drop, scoring a slap shot goal with only 9 seconds erased from the clock. Dickinson's goal propelled a momentum shift, which then saw 2 more Texas goals scored within the 1st 5 minutes of play. First, Eric Condra scored, followed by Roope Hintz, pushing Texas to a 3-1 lead. The Griffins kept steady & dug deep. They again turned the tide in the game with defensemen Joe Hicketts & Brian Lashoff scoring quickfire goals each to then tie the game at 3-3. In only 10 minutes of play in the 2nd period, there were 5 goals scored by both teams. Goalies Lindgren (Stars) & Sateri (Griffins) were under heavy fire. Most of the rest of the 2nd period went scoreless until Griffins Captain, Matthew Ford, found the net, beating Lindgren with 3:57 remaining in the 2nd to give the Griff’s a 4-3 lead going into the 3rd. 3rd Period got under way and the game remained close until Left Winger, Matthew Puempel, recovered from a heavy check in the 1st period, to score with 12:51 remaining. His goal was then followed by fellow forward, Axel Holmstrom with 9:03 remaining, which gave the Griff’s an unassailable 6-3 lead. It was a busy night for net minders and one that Texas’s Charlie Lindgren would rather forget. He finished the night with 23saves. Griffins net minder Harri Sateri made 25 saves at the other end. Tonight’s win shifts the Grand Rapids Griffins season record to 21-19-7 which has moved them to 6th in the Central Division Standings. Game Pics: 3 Stars of the Game: GRIFFINS SEASON STATS: Overall Record: 21-19-7 Month Record: 7-3-2 Home Record: 12-10-2 Away Record: 9-9-5 Last 10 Games: 6-3-1 Current Streak: 3W League Standings: The Month of January: The Players: Leading Points: Carter Camper - 31 Leading Goals: Matt Puempel - 14 Leading Assists: Carter Camper & Turner Elson - 25 Player Stats: Goalie Stats: League Leaders: Steve's Overview of the Griffins: After a disatrous 1st half of the season, which had them languishing in last place, Grand Rapids have been slowly clawing their way back into contention. They now sit in 6th place in the Central Division, behind Iowa & Texas, who they just beat during our feature game. Happy to date with Young defensemen, Filip Hronek, Joe Hicketts & recent acquisition through waiver claims, Chris Bigras. They along with Dennis Cholowski & Jared McIsaac may very well form the basis of a new defensive group for the Red Wings in the seasons to come. Up forward we have a number of mid to low ranking players, such as Puempel, Holmstrom, Turgeon & Smith, who may see full time NHL action in 1-3 years however not expecting such a huge impact from these players. The 2 forwards that we are very keen to keep an eye on are playing CHL this year. It is hoped young center's, Michael Rasmussen & Joe Veleno, will have big careers ahead with the Red Wings. Both should get a shot at the very least in the AHL next season. Rassmussen’s & Veleno's Stats in the CHL this season: Michael Rasmussen - Tri-City Americans (WHL): Joe Veleno - Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL):
