Pittsburgh-Detroit Swap: Tanev for Helm
As the Penguins plan to start a brief stretch of games at home, they'll do so with a new face on the roster.
Darren Helm, who plays both center and wing, will join the team following a trade with the Detroit Red Wings. Helm has been a solid player for the Wings, throwing up 17 points in 61 games in 2018-19. The year prior, he scored 31 points in 75 games.
So far in 2019, Helm has scored two goals and assisted on five in 21 games.
Taking a plane to Michigan will be Brandon Tanev and Santeri Airola. Tanev signed with the Penguins just prior to this season and has played surprisingly well. He's, like Helm, netted seven points in two fewer games. Airola was drafted by Pittsburgh in the seventh round of the 2019 draft, and the Penguins projected him to be a future seventh d-man.
With that, here's what the Penguins' lines will be in their game tonight versus the Toronto Maple Leafs:
Crosby - Lemieux - Guentzel
Galchenyuk - Malkin - Hornqvist
Rust - Helm - Aston-Reese
Kahun - McCann - Ennis
Hjalmarsson - Letang
Phaneuf - Schultz
Pettersson - Riikola
Scratch: LW Brandon Pirri; C Dominik Simon
Injured: Brian Dumoulin (day-to-day)
