Discord: Any particular reason we suddenly have to put our phone number in?

I never figured it was complicated. Figured it was exactly what you stated. It was pretty obvious that discord was looking for a certain verification level due to group settings, and not the community itself.

What do you mean group settings? Discord itself doesn't necessarily require phone numbers. Only individual servers do if the admin so choose to require it.

Let me re-phrase that for you.

The admin(s) of said server require verification by Discord, in order to use it. The admin(s) do not get that info. It is solely a service-run verification.

Yes, my stealing identities comment was just a joke. In any case, simply inserting "the" before Discord and "server" after it might have made things clearer.
