The last several rosters I have made work pretty well in the Madden system, but I am thinking about going in a direction that we be less compatible. As a user, would you will be willing to go in and do that much editing at the end of the season?

Re: Classic Roster Ratings

With my 1993 roster I made this year, I went back into CFM and made a lot of edits to the roster to make the game play more accurately. The results were amazing. QBs completion percentages were nearly perfect, TDs were a little high (mostly due to game engine emphasizing passing) INTs were solid, The QB rating was dead on as well.

RBs numbers were good in terms of yards per carry, but too many 1,000 yard rushers, because when you sim games, the CPU does not alternate running backs like it should.

WRs were better than normal expect again, too many guys with too many receptions again, the CPU does not sub out when simming games.

Sacks were very good. The highest sack totals were in the mid teens, which was true to life.

Kicking percentages were only a little high

Now, playcalling is something that we can only do so much about using the play books and schemes, but overall, my set up was about 2-3% off in terms of too much passing.

Re: Classic Roster Ratings

I curve the ratings based on position also. Definitely more important than overall. I try to keep the attribute ratings somewhat near the guideline of the games default draft class on past Madden's. Let's say you are making a roster and wanted to lower speed significantly for the entire roster and you set the fastest WR speed at 90 and had less than ten WR's with 85 speed on the entire roster. Nearly all of the WR's that you edited will be replaced by draft picks immediately by the CPU without heavy editing to the draft class. I would much rather edit the roster file that I downloaded then have to edit the draft picks every year.

*Off Subject - EA is adding audio to create a player's for M18. I can't remember the last Madden game to have this option.

Over the years I have tried several things with the rosters. One roster I did lower WR speed overall. I was not super happy with the results in terms of gameplay.

I can live with most of what Madden has as individual ratings, but it is the OVR formula that messes everything up. RBs are the best example because you cannot make a truly great elusive or great power back and have the OVR accurately reflect their abilities. Instead and average balanced back will end up with a higher OVR and that isn't right.

However, in terms of classic rosters, my biggest issue is with QBs. You simply cannot make the game create realistic stats, in played games or simmed games with the QB ratings. There will not be enough incomplete passes, not enough interceptions and as a result the QBs are just too good. This is a problem with the build of the game because it is based on the more Modern NFL. Today's QBs are not better than QBs of the past, but the game is different, the rules are different, the offensives are different. So, the only way to adjust to fix the QBs. The other option is to simply say the classic rosters are playing in the modern world and just go with the numbers. For me personally, I do not like that option. I know a lot of people are ok with it. But I also know a lot of folks on this forum want as much true to life as they can get. That is where my dilemma is.

I have thought about releasing two versions of the same roster. One would be inline with the normal Madden ratings. There would be no need for editing by the user. Then I would create another version which nerfed QBs, decreased BCV for RBs and lowered the Release and some other ratings for WRs, and nerfed TEs. That would be for those who only want to play 1 season with the roster, or are interested in editing draft classes. The problem is, that is A LOT more work on my end. I do like to play the game sometimes too. lol

*Your off-topic point: I do not remember Madden ever having an audio setting for players. Do you know if that will be editable for current players?

I prefer skewed OVRs with players that look and perform how I remember them.

Agreed, It is almost impossible on this platform.

PC is still the best and most realistic experience for retro roster guys. That's sad considering the games are over a decade old.

.. I don't see this improving either. EA has no motivation to make this better for us.

I've always liked your approach, but yes personally I would. I'm all about gameplay, and sim stats, whatever produces the best combo there

Re: Classic Roster Ratings

great ideas by all

on ps3 i couild really make the ratings my own 4 is a littie harder to for roster share

my 1 thing i do diff from most of u is a speed number for SPD AGI ACC this is were i make these 3 ratings 1 number the only way i change this is for Slot CB WR and this does not apply to OL and k p

madden 16 for ps4 had a conf rating and contsicay i really loved that

i found u cant go as low as i really want before madden 17 due to the draft

but i think to fix this uthill ea does and this is if u want to play more than 1 year in cfm u are going to have to go to a 60-99 scale but on madden 17 with fran edit u can make like u want

here is my scale
99-95 etile
94-89 all pro
88-82 souild starter
81-75 starter
74-70 replaceable
69-65 poor starter great backup
64-60 st guys
under 60 ps

Re: Classic Roster Ratings

ITP: I would use your scale of ratings and not listen to any one else. You put the work into the roster and keep it for urself if people give you flack for your work. You know what you are doing better any one else on Madden Classic Rosters.
