Why are people turning some traits off?

I will not argue the point further.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, really. I appreciate your extremely hard work making rosters, especially the historical ones, but remain skeptical about turning off traits. Your "testing" and that of others is totally subjective, and that's where the placebo comes in. But if it makes you and others feel better, go for it.
