Re: TNK ALL-PRO SLIDERS (Based of Armor & Swords)

So I played the next two games in my 49ers CFM:

@ Arziona (W, 28-21)

and

vs. Philadelphia (W, 17-3)

I unfortunately didn't record the stats before having to go to work. To start, I'm having a lot of fun, but a few of the niggling problems remain. Namely, too many sacks (5 vs Arizona and 6 vs. Philly). It seems to be no less than 5 sacks per game.
Also, while my running game wasn't brutally overpowering this time, I did manage over 130 yards each game on 30 carries or so.

SO, I've decided to perform a little experiment, to see how much of this is the sliders, the game, or just the 49ers being overpowered in the run game and on defense.
I'm going to start an alternate CFM with the worst team in the league (Raiders? Jags? Browns?)

I'll post back once I play a couple games as a "bad" team to compare and contrast a bit.

Re: TNK ALL-PRO SLIDERS (Based of Armor & Swords)

Finally some hope!

Oakland Raiders (me) : 10 @ NY Jets : 12

Stats:

D Carr: 12 for 23, 108 yds, 0 TDs, 2INTs
G. Smith: 22 for 25, 146 yds, 1TD, 0 INTs

D. McFadden: 27 carries for 139 yds, 5.1YPC, 0TD
C. Johnson: 21 carries for 105 yds, 5.0 YPC, 0TD

And here's the big one: NO SACKS for me! Jets got 2 against me.

----

My Thoughts

  • So I score a TD on my first drive, and I'm thinking "Oh great, this is going to be way too easy again". Lo and behold, I don't score another TD all game, and only manage a FG.
  • It was great actually NOT getting a sack every drive! And I blitzed a fair number of times as well, but Geno always was able to evade or get it off in time
  • Carr doesn't have near the mobility of Kaep, and that had a big impact on the two INTs I threw, plus the two sacks they had on me.

...all in all, I concentrated and played one of the more focused games I could, and while I felt like I COULD have won the game had I called a few different plays here and there, that's the feel I wanted.

I STILL think running is a touch too overpowered, but I'll wait to see if TNK has any adjustments he thinks are appropriate.

Re: TNK ALL-PRO SLIDERS (Based of Armor & Swords)

TNK - NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS FRANCHISE

Week #3 - Oakland Raiders (1-1) @ New England Patriots (2-0)

The Oakland Raiders come in to Foxboro missing 4 starters on a defense that has been decimated in the first two games of the season and will face the New England Patriots in their home opener at Gillette Stadium. Both offenses were a little slow to get going in this one as they each went 3 & out on their opening drives. Oakland was first to get on the scoreboard when Derek Carr led a drive down the field but the drive stalled in the red zone resulting in a 27 yd FG by Janikowski gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead. After starting the game 0 for 4 passing, Tom Brady drove the Patriots down field on the ensuing drive and Shane Vereen broke through for a couple big gains. The 1st quarter would come to an end with New England on the Oakland 3 yard line for a 3rd & goal. The Patriots would score on the opening play of the 2nd quarter as Brady got great protection and Gronkowski eventually shook his defender and Brady fired a dart for a TD to give the Patriots a 7-3 lead. Tom Brady would throw for 60 yards on the next Patriots possession and hit Edelman for a 9 yard TD strike on a slant to make it 14-3. The Raiders responded with a good drive behind Maurice Jones-Drew who ran with authority and a few nice throws by Carr but they had to settle for another Janikowski FG to make it 14-6 with 2:17 left in the half. The Patriots offense operated the 2 minute drill to perfection and marched all the way down to the Oakland 1 yard line where Stevan Ridley leaped went over the top for a 1 yard TD run with 0:18 remaining and New England would head to the locker room with a 21-3 lead at halftime

The Patriots were forced to punt on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter. Oakland looked like a different offense on their initial drive of the 2nd half as the combination of Jones-Drew and McFadden picked up yardage as the Raiders moved across midfield and Derek Carr hit Denarius Moore on a 40 yard streak in the corner of the end zone for a TD on a beautifully thrown ball to cut the Patriots lead to 21-13. The Patriots responded by going on a long drive the ended in a 3 yard run by Ridley for his 2nd TD of the day and the New England lead was increased to 28-13 with 2:27 left in the 3rd quarter. The 3rd quarter came to a close when Jerod Mayo sacked Carr at midfield to knock the Raiders out of FG range and force a punt sending us to the 4th quarter with New England leading by a score of 28-13. The Raiders defense came up with a huge play on the ensuing Patriots drive when Carlos Rogers picked off a Brady pass and took it 36 yards to the house for a TD to make it a one score game and cut the Patriots lead to 28-20 with 14:09 to play. Stephen Gostkowski nailed a huge 50 yd FG to make it a two score game and increase the Patriots lead to 31-20 with 9:22 remaining. Raiders rookie QB Derek Carr made a couple nice throws to get his team to midfield as the Raiders tried to pull back within one score. Carr tried to do too much though and forced a throw towards the sideline that was intercepted by Darrelle Revis who raced 57 yards down the sideline for a TD and deliver a crushing blow to the Raiders who now trailed 38-20 with 7:38 left to play. Revis came up with his 2nd interception of the game on the Raiders next possession and Tom Brady would hit Tim Wright for Brady's 3rd TD pass of the game to blow it open and give New England a 45-20 lead and that would be the final score of the game

* The Raiders hung in their and put up a good fight until the 4th quarter when the Patriots blew the game open on their way to a 45-20 victory to improve to 3-0 on the season. New England will find out what kind of team they are in the coming weeks as they travel Kansas City to face the Chiefs (2-1) and then have a big Sunday night matchup against the Bengals (2-1) the following week

* The Raiders came in to this game banged up and were missing 4 starters on defense and 1 starter on offense as they were without the following players:
Oakland Raiders
PosPlayerInjury Note
TEMychal RiveraBroken Hand (6 Weeks)
DTPat SimsTorn Hamstring (6 Weeks)
FSCharles WoodsonBroken Thumb (3 Weeks)
LBNick RoachBroken Ribs (2 Weeks)
LBKhalil MackDislocated Elbow (1 Week)

* Tom Brady had another good day going 26 of 37 with 3 TD and 1 INT

* Darrelle Revis had the play of the game as he made his first interception as a Patriot and returned it 57 yards for a TD to seal the victory midway through the 4th quarter.

* Raiders rookie QB Derek Carr was solid until a couple of interceptions in the 4th quarter and finished the day completing 21 for 30 passes for 186 yards with 1 TD & 2 INT

* Maurice Jones-Drewhad 96 rushing yards for Oakland and Shane Vereen had 95 yards rushing for New England as both running backs were effective in this game

* The Patriots (3-0) will head to Kansas City next week for their first real test of the season as they face the Chiefs (2-1) in a much anticipated Monday Night Football match up at Arrowhead Stadium where the crowd is always a factor. This game will be a tough road challenge for the Patriots and will tell us a lot about what kind of team the Patriots are going to be.

Re: TNK ALL-PRO SLIDERS (Based of Armor & Swords)

Rushing is still just too damn easy.

In week 10 of my experimental Raiders season, against the Broncos, I was up 21-7 right before half.

D. McFadden had 166 yards on just under 25 rushes before half time. And no, no big play broken tackles, I was just getting nearly 8 yards on every carry, and was only stopped for "only" 3 yards like 3 times.

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

I even lowered HUM running blocking to 49.

The CPU just does NOT learn. I can run the same rush play again and again, and keep picking up huge chunks of yards.
