Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

To introduce myself, I have been a Madden player since the beginning and honestly I haven't had this much fun playing since Madden '05. I have enjoyed the game play since we finally have receivers and defensive backs playing like they should and not to mention that we have penalties now. You could say I am a little excited to play this game. Now if we can get this patch.

So with that in mind, I want to get the QB accuracy slider right. I have tried a few different slider settings and while some games look good at times as far as completion percentage is concerned there are not enough realistic bad passes by the QB.

I have put together a chart of potential starting QB's this season you may use in your CFM. This includes their passing percentage and their bad pass statistics from last year. I have also included what I could on players who don't have whole lot of stats either because they are rookies or they haven't played in a while.

For those who are not familiar, the bad pass stat involves underthrows and overthrows that went for incompletions. This does not include throw aways or defended passes. So, I am issuing a challenge to all the slider gurus out there and those that want to give it the old college try. Feel free to post what you have discovered and stats that are comparable to last year's stats. I will try any setting you have posted that give us comparable realistic stats.

***I took Jameis' best game. I took an average of Marcus and Johnny's completion percentage from their best preseason games. I took Tyrod's stats from a game he played in 2012 because his preseason stats were not realistic to what he will will have in the regular season.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I think the best way to get results for what your trying to see especially on All-Pro or Pro Level is to lower the QBA slider down significantly.

The engine still allows QB to be way too accurate out of the box....

I also believe it's a combination of the QBA + WR catch...

The Catch Slider has a huge impact on accuracy because it decreases or increases the QB's Radius

Lower WR catch Slider and you'll see more deep balls off target.

Also that chart you posted is very helpful because you can actually take those Completion % for each QB and assign the slider to that exact setting and then use the WR Catch slider to keep those those QB's in line with their true Comp %

The problem is you have to adjust the Slider each game based on the QB your facing

The CPU would utilize the higher end of the slider scale while the Human QB would have to utilize the lower end of the scale and the WR Catch Slider would remain a neutral setting.

I devised a chart a few years ago on All-Pro Level in which it worked really well but not so much for All Madden because the QB's get a ratings boost altering their true accuarcy rating.

For example Drew Brees based on your chart would get a QBA Slider of 69 for the CPU controlling him and the Human player controlling him would be a 31 Slider setting.

Brian Hoyer one of the lower guys listed on that chart would get a Slider setting of 55 for the CPU and for the human player controlling Hoyer the setting would be 17

Now you can see the true difference in ratings based on Hoyer and Brees SLiders setting for both CPU and Human controlled

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I would do the opposite of Playmaker, I believe this year's Madden is the closest to realistic qb play than any other. I would suggest testing from 50/50 All-Pro and playing 5-10 games w/ each qb vs different teams, which is exactly what I'm doing in my 32 team offline CFM, and record the results.
I trust that the tiburon crew did a good job of rendering realistic qb play just after playing preseason and a few reg. Seasons game b4 having to start it over due to autosave bug.

Now IF after testing 50/50 AP and seeing robo qb of yrs past, then I may consider drastic slider changes but not until then.
So far I haven't felt that knee jerk reaction to change gameplay. I could change my mind after more games but not now.

Another thing to test is the player lock feat. And just letting the cpu AI control the qbs and I would lock onto another player(hb, wr, te, etc).
Alot of moving parts to test and just changing sliders around b/c that's what we've done in the past doesn't seem to be the case this year.

I will report back my qb results for each game and see how it aligns w/ these stats. I will have to keep a count on each bad throw as well.
This is another good thread to get a barometer on how close the qbs are playing to what we see irl.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Good ideas guys. I have been working my way down from 50. It appears in my experience so far that errant passes gradually increase the lower you go. You especially see it among backup QB's but not so much among higher tier QB's. I have started to test at 30 now so we'll see how that goes.

I did play a game at 0 as an experiment playing Palmer vs Brees and Palmer completed 53% of his passes having 7 errant passes while Brees only completed 30% throwing alot of ducks throwing 13 errant passes. So if there were one setting I would think its at a lower setting.

By the way, I like your idea playmakers and it could work especially for a 32 team CFM. I will test some games this weekend and see how it goes.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

Hey man i want to thank you again for posting this data saves me time to look up the information.

You have just given me a idea that i want to proceed on for Pro Level sliders I created.

I will be creating a QB Chart for Human Players based on the QB they utilize in Madden for their respective teams.

I still believe you can throw ratings out the window for all QB's when a human player controls him and that is why I believe a QB chart would work great on the lower levels Pro and All-Pro

Pass Block and Wr Catch would basically stay the same only the QBA slider would change to add seperation amongst the Human controlled QB when they play against the CPU.

Re: Realistic QB Accuracy Challenge

I'm playing on All-Pro and I started at 40 Qb Acc.

However the more I play I keep moving the User Qb Acc lower, I'm at 30 now, I'm just not seeing enough over/under throws from the user. On the other hand the CPU plays pretty realisticly at 40 Acc

Im also playing on all pro with cpu qb accuracy at 35 and user accuracy at 7.

I played using the patriots....23/30 340 yards 2 tds 0 int won 31-3 against titans. Brady made maybe 2 bad throws the entire game.

Played 3 straight games using the rams nick foles was 45 percent against the seahawks 1 int 0 td lost 26-3

He was 20/33 against redskins 271 yards 1 td 1 int won game 23-14.

Lost to steelers 22-17 19/37 268 yards 1 td 1 int

Foles made a LOT more overthrows and underthrows and even some completions were inaccurate where the receiver had to readjust or sometimes even dive.

Brady was on point from start to finish.

I went down to 5 for user but it was ridiculous...toooo many errant throws but 7 for me is the sweet spot.

I agree with you 100%

I'm at 30 on Pro Level started out that way right out the box but between Romo and my backups I don't feel any varience in the type of throws each one makes.....

It's a new year and a new Madden but that doesn't mean EA has changed their skin when it comes to QB Accuarcy and the games engine.

They will always give us a game where the accuarcy becomes too easy as we get used to the game.

But then again you can't develope a game that base don user stick skills when they take control of a player....

That is why I think this year is no different from previous years eventually the slider is going to have to be lowered IMO unless your cranking up the Pass Defense but that still doesn't cause errant, off target throws quite enough.

The way you get that type of gameplay is with a lower QBA or reduce the WR catch Slider but that leads to more dropped passes so the QBA slider is the best way to go.

Now obviously decision making plays a role in the QB's and we have no way of replicating that because we make the decisions on the field as well.
