@fsu32:

I don't know the "why", but that's the way it's always worked...

More of an EA question...

Historically yes, but I don't think it is that way this year. I have been creating a coach and setting auto subs to match my own with good results.

While you're at it you can IR long term injured players (CPU has not been doing this), flip CB 1 and 2 for best on best coverage, sign players where depth is needed, change retired jersey numbers, and change the playbook if desired.
Save then retire the coach and the inputs stick, including the sub settings. If you don't save the sub settings, they revert to 50/49 default.

I think the depth changes may not stick though, at least not for long, but this is not confirmed.

I am trying to decide if the general books are better than the team books. I tried starting a thread about this to collect people's observations but it did not generate much interest and quickly died an ugly death.

I do think the offensive general books have more varied play calling but I agree they tend to be mostly dink and dunk. I don't know if that's germain to the general books themselves or driven more by QB player traits, personnel match ups, type of book (pass balanced vs run balanced, etc) ,defensive play calling, or something else entirely. One thing I have ruled out is that it is not driven by QBA (meaning the slider accuracy setting, not the player accuracy rating).

The team books are more aggressive, with seemingly more deep shots, although the deep shots are almost always 4 verts. It also seems as though mostly the same 10-15 plays are recycled throughout. I would like to hear what others are seeing with regard to this.

At any rate, there are times when use of the general books would make more sense than the team books. A prime example would be an injury to a key player in the offense (QB, WR, RB) that would dictate a different playing style.

The defensive general books I have found to be pretty good as well, albeit somewhat less aggressive with fewer blitzes. I lean toward the team defensive books now as the tuner seems to have fixed the press cover one auto TD problem that used to be so prevalent beforehand.

.
This right here is the main reason I like using generic playbooks. I mean, you see with the Pats and Brisset at QB, only threw like 20 passes, with their default playbook, could of easily thrown like 40. But with a run heavy playbook assigned Blount would just go ham and smash people.

I do think you raise a good point though Josh, regarding the dink and dunk factor, something I have certainly seen. It often results in the CPU QB having 27/30 or 24 from 25 games people often complain about and being robotic.

I think I may trial just assigning a different playbook when I see a major injury. Otherwise, I'll just leave it. It does get rather tedious creating and retiring ever week...

Starting a new CFM tomorrow, can't wait. Thanks again for all your work Josh!

Using default CFM sliders, I see way more variety in playcalling and the CPU constantly just using default PBs. Not only that, I feel like teams lose what little identity that they have when switching to generics.

Hey, to each his own...
I agree about the west coast one, I hate it, checkdowns all day.

Re: JoshC1977's M17 Sliders

I've lost my first four games with the new set, but it's good. Been throwing too many picks, but it's bad reads, etc. with maybe 1-2 "All-Madden" super plays. One thing is for sure...in All-Madden if the CPU wants to score, they will score. I know, I know...read the play, get better skills, etc., etc. But in 3 of those games I got beat on the last drive, and couldn't stop anything. I'm not just talking about shootout-type games either. Good variety of penalties, but the frequency is still probably a little too low...like 4-5 penalties a game total. I got an OPI call last night, and the commentary team mentioned that "you don't see that one too often"...that was pretty cool. Seems like there's 2-3 plays every game that decide things, and even though I haven't caught a lot of breaks thus far it is very realistic. Scores have ranged from 44-41 in OT to a 16-7 defensive struggle.

There's definitely still all madden BS but I don't think anything can be done about it. Had a 21-17 lead on the 49ers last night with 4 minutes left in the 4, Blain Gabbert run a read option, breaks an Ayers tackle, breaks a Lavonte David tackle, jukes Conte and Kwon with one juke, then out runs the rest of the defense for a 45 yard TD. I was pissed lol

Re: JoshC1977's M17 Sliders

I can deal with the occasional All-Madden BS. Best thing for me with this set is good teams are good and bad teams are bad. I'm struggling with my 49ers big time just like I should. Playing the Seahawks D was terrifying like it should be and going against Cam was brutal. On all-pro i wasn't scared of good teams.

So far I'm 1-2.

vs Rams - won 23-20
@ Panthers - lost 28-20
@ Seahawks - Lost 40-13

Pretty accurate to real 49ers life. :-)
