I figure maybe user catching will help only for top end wideouts.

Aside from the typical "play sim", I use no house rules whatsoever. FWIW...I definitely see elite WRs make great catches....but like real life, don't expect any receiver to make too many over-the-top catches in heavy traffic.

This is also an area where using all of the QB passing controls (stick aiming, L1/L2, etc.) can really help top WRs shine ('button passing' not so much)

Re: JoshC1977's M17 Sliders

Josh played a season as the basket case 9ers with the sliders. its not consistent which i love. week 17 vs hawks i won 10-17, i couldnt run, they couldnt pass. real defensive struggle. i get them in the division playoff. i coulnt pass but could run this time. wilson was 30 odd of 54 470 yards and 1 td 3 int. i managed to win but it certainly wasnt easy.

im playing with no expectation of winning (this is all coach mode btw) just trying to put the best players on the field for the situation. 4 months ago i assumed i was going to win nearly all the time

thanks Josh for the hard work

Just so I understand this correctly, sliders in the regular startup menu, effect the game play in CFM?

First, I love the effort you guys put into this. I was looking at all the sliders talk and... well... 410 pages of thread is a little daunting to go through. Am I correct in assuming that the post on the original page is the set of sliders all are referring to as the one to use?

Just trying to make sure that things haven't changed!

Yes, the opening post will always be the current version

Really? When I adjust sliders in my CFM it definitely changes things... I've never noticed main menu sliders having an effect on my CFM. (except for display settings, like the "skinny" pick a play window, since that can't be adjusted in CFM)

But I only play offline CFM, and I've always left everything at default in my main menu, and I adjust sliders within my CFM and it definitely has an impact. Like I have increased a few penalties within CFM (default in MM) and only after I increased them did they start happening. (again, I changed nothing in the MM)

Can you explain a little more than you do in your OP exactly which main menu settings affect gameplay in a CFM? In the OP you say MM injury is actually the "CPU try harder" slider yet you recommend it be set very low at 10? So you don't want the CPU to try hard? Is that the only slider from the MM that affects CFM?

I'm confused, lol.

To summarize the sliders in cfm have a big impact on gameplay while the sliders in mm have a smaller impact but an impact non the less.
