Trouble with Power-O

Hey, all.

I'm having persistent difficulty getting Power-O to succeed at a reasonable rate. I'm seeing the following, repeatedly:

* Slow and de-synched pulling
* Poor targeting by the pulling G
* Poor targeting by the FB, when in a 2-back set
* Poor sealing of the edge defender by the TE

I've of course looked at ratings and have run these plays using teams with Power OL, emphasizing things like lead block, impact block, and run block power, but I still can't run the play well. It's very often a TFL.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a settings issue or if it's hard-coded this year.

FWIW, I'm on AM with 85 HUM RBK and 40 CPU TAK, with 25 Facemask and DPI.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue with Power O, or conversely, if anyone is having more success with different settings.

I don't want automatic wins for me on this play, but I want a reasonable chance to have it blocked well and I just can't seem to make that happen. I see inside/outside zone blocked much better and with greater consistency.

Re: Trouble with Power-O

Using sum of your settings and seeing things I haven't seen in a while, if at all. It takes forever and a day to find just the right mix. My researching, testing and adjustments are in the past. Moving forward with what I have now. Hope this new update drops today or tomorrow. Try putting the hb edit to oblivious.

Ah yes, thresh is key here.

This was exactly the sort of thing I was looking at when 1.12 dropped and they made the thresh change. With the new 50 thresh, runners were too fast for the o-linemen. The back would be at the point of attack before a pulling guard could even get there. With it at 75 (the old default thresh), the backs were too slow relative to the o-linemen. The block would be engaged and start dis-engaging when the back would hit that hole. At 75, there would also be an issue where the o-linemen would just be way too far upfield.

I settled-in on 65 thresh and it synced-up the majority of those issues for me.

We'll have to see what today's patch brings to the table, but as of 1.12, that really did the trick.

65 helped tighten those pull plays up--thanks, Josh.

What was the OOTB value that worked in this area for you, if you recall?

Re: Trouble with Power-O

Another thing that helps with all run plays but especially pull/counters is IDing the Mike. You have to really give yourself time to envision the whole play and make sure everyone is blocked. It gets tricky - do you ID a backside blitzer, will the guard pull upfield or seal the edge, will there be a double team block, ect.

I didn’t figure out that thresh was the culprit until 1.12 dropped. OOTB value....probably like 40. Using 50 OOTB had the exact same issues...
