    FANTASY DRAFT STRATEGY/TIPS

So for all MADDEN, MLB AND NBA, I always start my franchises with a Fantasy Draft. And I'm always curious about which positions do people draft in their first 10 picks?

Like for me I like to draft 5 Defensive and 5 Offensive players in first 10 picks.

Defensively it'll be like (MLB, 2 CB, 2 DE) or (MLB, 2 DT, FS and a SS)

Offensively it'll be (QB, HB, 2 WR, TE) or (QB, HB, LG, C, RG)

I go back and forth from building inside out (MLB, FS, SS, 2 DT) (QB, HB, LG, C, RG)

    OR

Starting with the "Skilled Positions" (MLB, 2 CB, 2 DE) (QB, HB, 2 WR, TE)

Interesting to see how everyone else goes about drafting and which positions they immediately draft etc.

Let's hear those draft strategies and tips!

    EDIT:

Also I set some "House Rules" for when I draft.

I split Old(26+) and young(25under) players up. So if I'm drafting 2 RE, 1 player has to be 26+ age wise and the other can either be A. 25 and under or B. 26+. But I can't draft two 25 under players at same position. So that way I won't have a team full of young players. Makes it more balanced IMO.

    Re: FANTASY DRAFT STRATEGY/TIPS

I usually have 4-5 players I target. Just players I like, no other criteria. Typically within top 21 round picks. I play my Lions and also have to draft 4-5 starter or close players from their current roster but a few of those may double as youngish players in first sentence.

Rest of picks will vary based upon who is available and then I’ll select based upon varied criteria in the moment. I prefer spread offense and 3-4 storm or disguise D. I always end up with a good mix of players age, ratings, etc.

With the contract length changes this year I have to apply that now too. I got burned in my first fantasy draft as a result of this.

That’s a normal fantasy draft. Sometimes I’ll decide I’m going to build an offensive or defensive team and then draft heavily towards that.

Later in season I’ll do new drafts with different challenges.

Oh ok, yea for me I like to have a plan of whether I'm building inside or skilled positions first. It'll also depend on what players I like and also how deep that position is. I tend to lean towards defensive side of ball first.

As of right now my first 5 picks are as follows.

      1. Fred Warner MLB
      2. SS/RE (BAKER/SIMMONS)
      3. FS/LE (FINTZPATRICK/YOUNG
      4. DT/CB (WILLIAMS/WARD
      5. DT/CB (PIERCE/AWUZIE)

And then I'll start building my OFFENSE.
      6. Saquon Barkley HB
      7. Odell Beckham WR

So far that's what my draft has looked like.

Solid draft and plans are good I just don’t know who will be available when I draft. I have players I like if available though. One draft I went early and snagged Myles Garret. I’d grab him every time if I could. One time I went in middle and he was gone but I snagged TJ Watt who I love. When I drafted late they were gone so I drafted Quentin Nelson. So my next pick is impacted by first pick. After Nelson i though I’d solidly some oline so took Ronnie Stanley. When I had Myles first I took Aaron Donald next to team up dline. When I got TJ I took Vita Vea or what his name is DT on Tampa.

My target players this year from Detroit are Hutchinson, Williams, Okudah, Fox and Rodriguez. Not being sure when they’ll go I have to take them a round or multiple rounds early based upon how I feel cpu is drafting. So that can then mess up any plan.

Then however my first 3-4 picks have gone I’ll adapt my draft strategy. I always grab my special teams players in late 20’s to be sure I get who I want as I love having that locked down.

Now I’ll adjust drafting some around the new contract lengths too. Take a guy early or take a different player in a round.

Nice, what schemes do you use? I use TAMPA 2 AND RUN AND SHOOT. Or at least that's what I'm planning to build around.

For me when I draft I kinda cheat in a way lol like for one I have to have my picks in the teens. So when I get the 14th pick I'll save the franchise. So that way I can go back and retry different combinations and maybe get new players I wouldn't normally get etc. And figure out which combination I like best of first 10 picks and go from there.

With my 14th pk save file right now both Garrett and Watts are still on board for my first pick. I started a draft with Garrett but felt like rest of team wasn't as balanced as if I went with MLB Warner first pick

I do online franchise so no saving. However, when Maddentools goes live next week for this year I’ll use it as a guide for my target players. I still like some winging it though as I’d be bored with the perfect team.

I’ll Tampa 2 if I’m going 4-3. I like it in nfl and think it translates well. But my first franchise is 3-4 Storm and Spread offense.

Definitely a great mlb makes a difference or you feel it. Still no way I’d pass on Garret at 14. Well, my wife is a Longhorn and she gets pissed watching me play when I have anyone from A&M on my team.

I hate they took away our ability to change scheme before fantasy draft. Makes it a little harder for me pick players.

Yeah I used Madden Tools last year but thought it might be more fun if it was a little less perfect draft which is why I'm drafting now.

Yea I definitely wanted a great MLB. I see you like adding drama to your life with your wife lol

And yeah I completely agree hate that you can't change the schemes before draft like last year. So I just took a picture of the scheme fits then started my draft so I knew exactly why schemes I was looking for

I feel same in regards to Maddentools/drafting. It’s why I only use it to gauge where my 5-7 target players are going. In most drafts the GMs know where players are mostly slotted so I don’t mind a handful out of 50. It’s also why I draft online so no saving. I debate between 2 people and hope other one is there next round and gone. No going back.

Later in the season I do a team of only players from Michigan and Texas schools. It helps me with that.

Think I’m gonna have to do the pic thing. It’s time resson I like the 3-4 storm. Everyone speed so easy to remember. Lol.

What playbook do you use for 3-4 Storm? Because that was my other option for defensive scheme I was thinking

I use Tampa’s. Not sure it’s the best for it but I like the playbook and do ok. I don’t study playbooks but this year I might google to see which 3-4 book has the most blitzes.

If you end up doing a fantasy draft let me know who you draft. I'd be interested in seeing how it went

Will do. Let me know when you finish yours and how it ends up. I’ll be doing mine this week or weekend. I may wait for the roster update Friday but it’s minor for fantasy draft. I’m still messing with how I want to scout, sliders, difficulty, real impact tags and motivations have on signings, etc. so after I draft I can just play. I’ve played very few games so I’ll hopefully get better as my team does.

I always start as owner role just to immediately rebuild Ford Field into an outdoor stadium. All football games should be in whatever weather is happening. Then I retire week 9 and play a custom coach.

Someone posted a fantasy draft spreadsheet today so I got an idea where my few sentimental project picks are going. My targeted WR is undrafted but I make my picks like this in the top 35 so I’ll snag him early.

Yeah. Lots of articles on “best” but that’s not what I’m after. Someone recommended the Raiders to me so I’m messing with it now. I’m kinda digging it.

                              My scheme are:
                              OFF: RUN N SHOOT
                              DEF: TAMPA 2

                              Playbook:
                              OFF: SF
                              DEF: NO

But yea like you said it was just a bunch of best playbook articles mostly for MUT type stuff.
