OK, lets assume they do exactly this. First wave is on Date A, Second Wave on Date B
48 hours later. Your date is randomized or whatever.

We have a server bug that the 100-150-odd testers haven't been able to nail down, but based on frequency across them, the network engineers feel like 2,500 testers would be enough to trigger the bug frequently but few enough to easily nail down and fix in a day. Sounds good, Date A target server bug should be resolved before the new load of players comes online

So, on Date A, they send out to 2,500 testers (I'm pulling numbers out of thin air as an illustrating, please don't put any stock in them).

But, then, by adding 2,500 more people logging into the servers, especially day one of Beta Launch, they find 3 new mysterious bugs. So now they estimate, with the additional bugs, they can fix the original one in 3 days.

Date B comes, and suddenly the addition of another 5,000 testers overloads the whole damn network (it's a test bed network, it is scaled back to simulate launch day with the number of beta users invited), now we have to stop work on the original server bug just to get the servers running again.

And you, the guy who wanted to know precisely when he gets his code because apparently the customer is always right EVEN when the customer is NOT a customer but a volunteer tester, are even madder than you would have been if you'd accepted that this is a nice perk rather than some kind of promised service.

Free closed betas are not services or perks meant to please the customer. Signing up for the beta is not claiming your free reward for being a fan, it is offering your free labor in hopes of a better product. EA is not obligated to honor your offer in anyway, much less tell you when they will.

If I'm being realistic, I honestly doubt the user feedback system is used much outside of those things that get repeated ad nauseum. Most of the fixes come from built in hooks designed to test things they're already not sure about.

As for the handing out of codes on twitter, that's much more about EA's relationship with content creators than fans. If a few already dedicated Madden reporters get a few hundred more followers and can convert a few into subs, that improves their relationship with EA. It's just EA leveraging something they're already doing to strengthen partnerships. Has nothing to do with the general consumers.
