    Always throwing bullets

Does anybody else have a hard time throwing anything except bullet passes? I try to throw a touch pass to get it over a LB 10 yards short of my WR but it always comes out a bullet. Or I’ve got them beat on a corner route and I get a perfect accuracy bullet pass that the defender picks off.

And then in the rare instance that I do throw a touch pass, it floats long enough for guys who aren’t even covering my WR to get over and pick it off.

Running verticals against cov3 sky for example. Inside WRs take off & get behind the hook zone defenders up the seam. One deep safety in the middle of the field takes one of the WRs and I throw to the other. Bullet pass gets picked by the hook defender 10y short of my wr. In the rare case I get a touch pass, the safety peels off his guy comes over and picks it off.

    Re: Always throwing bullets

Here’s an example. I’ve got him beat. Perfect accuracy throw. But it’s a bullet so the guy who should be completely out of the play catches it.

I don’t think a bullet pass, in real life, is 8 ft off the ground when it’s 25 feet from the intended receiver. But I know that’s how madden works. There’s line drives and pop ups and nothing in between.

      Re: Always throwing bullets

I have same issues. Exact same scenarios. Guy is 5 yds past the db who is trailing. I try to lob it so he can run under it, and the db leaps and makes a play on the ball, either swatting or an int. The pop-up on screen says "accurate bullet pass". I have been wondering if my controller is faulty!

FYI, I watched a video on you tube of a guy showing how to master passing on Madden 24 and he was surprised he had a hard time throwing a touch pass too. It was always bullet or a lob. He was in practice mode too and could rarely get a touch pass. It frustrated him as well which was ironic see he was showing us how to master the passing!

        Re: Always throwing bullets

I can throw lobs and bullets fine, but throwing touch passes is tough. The timing window feels way too small and it's why I think EA should allow us to customize the size of the window. I also wish they let us choose how to throw each type. I'd rather have a tap be a bullet and a lob be a tap while the touch stays the same, but we don't even have the ability to change something that simple.

You can get all sorts of pass types based upon how hard you press the button. It sounds like you may have a trigger lock on or something.

I'd also go into practice mode where you do the drills and learn there, it helps

are you using a regular controller or like a playstation dualsense or microsoft elite?

i ask because the latter both have trigger lock that changes the triggers from analog to digital. so if you have that on on the joystick you will only be able to throw a lob or a bullet.

usually there's a switch on the bottom of the pad to change it

Oh I see. I’m using an OEM controller.

Maybe I just have a hard time lightly pressing a button when I’m trying to evade a rush and get a pass off.

                  Re: Always throwing bullets

I am the complete opposite. I can throw touch and bullets just fine, but can’t throw a lob to save my life unless I am consciously focusing on doing it. And when I focus that hard to throw the lob it usually throws off my timing and the defender catches up lol.

Here’s the thing I have found. If you are not using skill based passing (I use placement + power. I want QB ratings to matter), or playing on classic you will never be effectively able to lead the receiver on lob or touch passes and the defender will almost always catch up to defend. I notice when I don’t use L2 on lob or touch passes my reciever almost always has to go into this weird “slow down” animation where they stop running full speed. The best way I can describe it is without using L2 your QB is almost just “putting the ball on the receiver” instead of throwing it to a spot. When I use L2 I can usually throw it to a spot and hit my receiver at full speed. I know a lot of people feel like the skill based passing is gimmicky, but with my setting at placement + power based on QB attributes I still get a ton of over throws even with my reticle set to near.

This game really was made to play with the skill based passing on and you can tell. The defense is better and reacts to things quicker which is a really good thing. If you are playing in classic you really are doing yourself a disservice and won’t get a lot of the RAC animations that are available to the receiver unfortunately. I would recommend at a minimum using placement + power if you are a sim player. This eliminates the passing meter but still give you the ability to put the ball ahead of the receiver so they can catch it at full speed. You don’t have to use the skill based passing 100% of the time. For me it’s probably a 70/30 split where I just use regular lead pass the majority of the time. But it really is the only way to hit your receiver on those deep streaks or posts without the defender catching up. Skill based passing really is the skill gap this year when it comes to passing and will change your game

I'm having massive issues with this. I can do it in practice and but the moment I get into a game, it throws a bullet pass when I'm clearly trying to make a lob pass.

I went into practice and got the timing down. I feel like I've done this before but when in game, it never translates and I throw a ton of picks right at defenders when i was trying to throw it over there heads. I hate the little graphics that pops up but I will say I am glad cause it confirms a bullet pass when I was trying to lob/touch pass it. I need to figure this out.

Like I said, in practice I was alright....maybe get some touch passes instead of lobs, but definitely never an accidental bullet pass. We shall see.

Because in the actual game you have some adrenaline and it means something so you hit the button a bit harder.

Of course just a theory, but a plausible one perhaps?

Same. I agree the window between lob and bullet should be slightly larger.

I use classing, but the timing on the button hits is slightly wonky this year. I've had to stop pump faking entirely because there's a solid chance I end up throwing a weak lob into coverage.

As for throwing downfield or over defenders, you have to use the high-pass modifier (LB on Xbox). The default will aim for their numbers, which makes it come down low enough for a trailer to make a play on it. If my guy has his man beat on a go, full-lead + high-pass seems to give the best results. You might miss because of the high pass modifier but IME you rarely miss short.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.
