Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
Please tell me if im wrong but every team every week of the season must be zero or positive on cap as far as i know. Breaching this incurs loss of picks i think. Yet despite this i see a number of AI teams with large negative cap numbers, teams ive never traded with to cause cap penalties by the way. On the flip side the problem with teams with massive positive numbers (always the Bears it seems) never spend it and this still hasnt been fixed. I can understand if you were resigning a QB but their is no mechanism to front load. At minimum if a QB who has 1 year left of the rookie deal (not first round pick) is to be resigned to say with a 5 year 150M extension I would expect logic that converts to a 6 year deal pulling forward both salary and guaranteed money so they go from say 4m in current year to say 30M plus. i cant see any agent/player disagreeing with that. This can be done by editing a player after a deal and decreasing total salary by 0.01M where the total deal is 7 years or less.Tags: None -
Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
Teams aren't supposed to be over the cap but teams are over at times. It's usually a fine I believe for the team. Extreme cases can lead to loss of picks but I don't remember that ever happening. There are usually a few teams every year that go over the cap at some point.Comment

NFL teams can't be over the cap during the season. It's a hard cap.

Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
Poor clock management by CPU, CPU tries ridiculously long FG's on highest difficulty level, robo-QB, LB's who can jump 10 feet in the air, DB's with eyes in the back of their heads, custom playbook glitches, etc.
OH WAIT we still have all those problems in Madden ten years later nevermidnComment

Yeah but NCAA 14 has it's own issues:

Lol no doubt. I can’t believe it’s 2023 and Madden isn’t a mind blowing game. It actually kind of hurts.

Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
It's a bit of a process but taking over some of the teams in the offseason and clearing bad contracts has made a massive improvement in my franchise. I actually looked last night and the least amount of cap room is 30m. So probably a bit of an over correction but I'm about to begin season 7 on madden 23 and have managed to avoid any game breaking bugs or crazy free agent problems.Comment

Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
i do go in and amend other teams, restructure contracts where poss and only cut if i have to, dallas are currently 30m in the hole and i cant restructure anymore and there arent any easy cuts of overpaid players. Cleveland nearly always is screwed as well.
i did a test traded bosa for parsons. simmed and next year waited for parsons to be resigned and reversed the trade. thats the only way i could get dalaas anywhere near the 50m they were in the hole in my offline franchise. wtf is the ai doing?Comment

I'll take this over AI teams 5 years into a Franchise all having $80 million in cap space at all times. At least this feels realistic.Comment

Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
Not using 32 team control. I maintain ownership of my current team. You can’t go from owner of one team to another so I pick a random team and become their worst player, then create owner for the targeted team, giants for example. Then I cut some of their expensive trash, golladay for example and whoever else, or reasonably lower cap hits. Then go to user teams, clear cap penalties for them and retire. You lose the actual owners for the teams I believe but do you ever really notice them in this game. I also retire the terrible players I had to take over in between owners.Comment

Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
One of my franchises I played with after year 1 the Vikings went heavy in the FA and signed 2 CBs and like another high overall defense guy
But overall yes I agree with you that most teams don’t get aggressive. I also think motivations play a factor to, maybe a lot of those teams put offers up but the player isn’t interested because it’s a cold weather state or somethingComment

Re: Offline Franchise - AI teams over the cap
Honestly, the CPU is so brainless in terms of roster management, I don't mind at all if they go over the cap. Means maybe I'll play some competitive teams. In fact, I only just now realized I ought to be clearing all CPU dead money annually. There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.
The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.
