It’s October 12th and the outside 1/3 CB in match will not play his vertical route and peel off to double team the flat with the assigned flat player leaving the receiver wide open. Really, smh!

Fix the damn game already. Besides what I posted I’m seeing quarters safties just standing still and letting guys run by them then they react after 10 yards. What are you doing, fix it! -

It’s 11-29-23 and still nothing. Just stop making the outside corner quit defending the flat and leaving the outside 1/3 unguarded. Spot drop cover 3s and 4s, man coverage are the only coverages not broken in one form or another. Com on fellas, takes some pride in your work.Comment

Yeah I have no idea what OP is talking about. match coverage in Madden doesn’t always match real life exactly in all situations, but it does seem to behave pretty consistently and isn’t “broken” in any way that I know of.Comment

Match coverage is broken.
When in Cover 4 Match and the offense sends receivers on the same side of the formation, 1 on a fly and one to the flats, the inside 3rd defender comes up to double the flat. This leaves the fly pattern wide open and all alone for a gimmie touchdown.
The safety shouldn't come up and help the corner in the flat, but should rather match the fly route.Comment

Pick match or buzz seam. You can use any formation but here’s an easy one. Trey TE Flex, TE does a corner and RB to the flat.
Basically anything compressed that has someone going to the flat will make the corner peel off and drop down to defend it.
Match against compression should turn itself into a drop coverage on the compression side and it doesn’t. Its programming is messed up. So like in past maddens if you had compression on one side and spread on the other, the spread side would match and the compression side would default to a curl/flat sky coverage. Not only doesn’t it do that now, but it has the CB loosing his mind and automatcally leaving the #1 receiver and double teaming the flat.
Quarters and cover 6 has issues as well but you can have them behave somewhat correct if you change zones and user specific players. That’s another topic.Comment

Got it. I was able to reproduce exactly what you described. I triggered this bug out of the Gun Trips Y-Flex play you provided with no hot routes. I was also able to use some hot routes to reproduce the bug out of Strong I Close (X hot route to corner, RB to weak flat). I also triggered it with just Strong I Slot - PA Power O, targeting the tight end.
Generally, it appears that any vertical route from a reduced or inline split on a solo receiver side is getting dropped by the boundary corner when there's also a backfield receiver running into the flat on the same side.
Hopefully this gets fixed soon. In the meantime I guess the workaround is to not call Cover 3 Seam / Cover 3 Buzz Seam against any set with a lone reduced-split receiver and a running back. Personally, I haven't called Cover 3 Match against 3x1 in Madden in years anyway specifically because it has no trips check, but it's certainly annoying to have to add more asterisks.Comment
