Are safeties still useless in this game?

I know I posted a thread about this in previous maddens but again this years game I feel that safeties don’t make a big impact. I have played different franchises where my safeties were average from ratings so I may not expect much but I even lately played as teams with safeties in 90s rating and I still don’t see a difference. I may see them pop up in the run defense sometimes but more liability in the pass defense

Didn’t know if I was the only one again seeing this?

Isn't that the case in real life as well? Safetys are usually not big impact players in the NFL right now..

also depends what your base defense is. If you play a lot of cover 3, then a run stopping SS is vital.

Don't tell that to Jessie Bates... who does feel useless in Madden. I think a big part of the problem is the CPU throws to the tight end a bunch of times because tight ends are overpowered in Madden. I think it would improve the game a lot to slow down their athletism and also add ways for users to make sure they get checked off the line. I want to be able to bump a tight end with my defensive end to slow them down.

Not at all, and they never were "useless".

If you frequently play match coverage, having good cover safeties is invaluable and they can have a decisive impact on the game.

That said, it is difficult to challenge a single-high safety in Madden because it's rare that they get fooled by things such as a double post concept or corner-post or post-corner routes. Generally speaking, Madden zone coverage defenders don't really make egregious mental mistakes in zone coverage, especially deep zone defenders; rather if they lose it's due to slow reaction time. So a Cover 3 center-field safety only has but so much value.

If you run Cover 1 or 3 a lot those safeties are critical. Have terrible safeties and the TEs are going to light you up. My Strong Safety is in the box most of the time and is really my 3rd linebacker. Top 3 in tackles on my team every year. Safeties are not useless.

Coverage wise they are. Run support they are great

In my experience I feel like defensive players without superstar traits can have a hard time impacting a game. I think d linemen, even with high overalls, but only star dev, won’t do much to impact the game either. Could be the way I play, might depend if you’re playing online v offline too. Also probably depends if you’re good at usering a safety also.

One of the issues for safeties in this game is how they have them approach man coverage. If your safety is in man coverage they never rotate them down onto the slot receiver or the TE. So you always end up allowing easy completions.

I think that was his point. If you play man and the safety has the TE or WR in coverage they should automatically line up with them. That's their man.

Exactly, you shouldn’t have to manually move them down to their coverage responsibilities.

This is what I meant, I do agree in the run game they play good (especially the higher rated safeties) but pass coverage they feel useless. They don’t play their zones right, and then the corner of the end zone is always a issue with them

Played a game last night and I gave up 2 long td passes because my safety did not play their zone correctly. Just seems the safety always plays more in the middle of the field regardless of the coverage and basically lets the receiver run a corner route wide open

They still make a impact in the run game like I mentioned
