Am I wrong?

Ok. So after waiting to buy Madden this year. I finally purchased it during the Holidays. I can not tell you how dissapointed I am with EA and the lack of entertainment value this game has. Can someone please tell me why ESPN 2k5 has a better presentaion and entertainment game then Madden does in 2023? I just do not get it. Why has most sports games gone down hill with franchise and the ability to make each game feel different with the commentary and all the preesentation aspects! Am I the only one that feels this way? I mean I will not be playing Madden again even though I paid 25 bucks for it. I am so glad I didn't pay 70 like when it was new. I wish someone would come out with something that the game feels like a living and breathing broadcast to mkae the game extra entertaining. The ESPN game had a weekly show and had around the leage highlights! I mean why in 2005 developers could do that but in 2023 all we get is a halftime show where they only show 3 scores of games. That is in! And stat overlays are ablsolutley horrible. The the 5 games I played the only overlay I woud see was the running back stats and that was it! Never the quarterback stats or defensive stats or anything in a overlay presentation style? Why? The game was so bland it just was not fun. I guess maybe I expect more? But 18 years after 2k5 and I do not recall any sports game do what that game did. Maybe the NBA 2k games do a close job. But that is the olny game that does a pretty good job. I would like to hear more for other people? Do I make sense? Paying 70 bucks every year for a game and I can honestly say Madden has not improved much the last 4 years. Just venting a bit. 2k5's presentation is better than what we have in Madden 24. That's not debatable in my mind. I really wish EA would create 3-4 different networks in-game and just mimic real life, but they just won't for whatever reason. That said, the gameplay on the field is better than 2k5's and that's what has kept me playing the game all the way into January. It's far from perfect, but it's the best Madden on the field of all time, imo. EA just needs to fix the legacy issues, upgrade the presentation significantly, and polish the game and I will be very happy.

Maybe I've gotten to the point that presentation doesn't bother me as much as it should because you're right,it certainly should be much further.

As far as other aspects go,I feel it definitely has improved.The most recent Madden I've played as much was '16.This years gameplay is very good and on par finally with the other major sports titles.You need to get sliders dialed in and you can find enjoyment.

Nba2k and The Show haven't improved quite as much but hit such a high level more than a decade ago that they kinda are a victim of their own success in that regard.

I cant call EA lazy as I know little of coding, and what it takes to build what they have built. It's more along the lines of cutting corners.

With each new console, instead of building the games from the ground up, they bring the "legacy" code over to the new consoles and build apon it. This was evident a few years ago when they implemented the new scouting system. Once in awhile the game would glitch and you would see the old coaches office, instead of the new menu. This slowed the game down as the old code was still running in the background. I would hope that's EA upper management telling them to make it work, without costing too much. It's basically give the people causing a fuss a bone, but make it cheap to hold them over.

MUT has to be their main focus, as money is what is driving them. With the lack of competition as we all know, there is nothing we can do about it from a consumer stand point. Sure, we all can not buy it, but they will still make literal billions off microtransactions. I used to work for an outside company that handled inbound customer service calls for Xbox. I could see every purchase you made, and I would say at LEAST 40-50% of the calls I took had some sort of FIFA point transaction on them when it was a thing. Hundreds to thousands of dollars a year, only to get a new game the next year and do it again.

I have little hope for Madden going forward, not until some sort of competition comes along. I know College ball drops this year, but it won't put a big enough dent in Madden sales, especially if they connect them. People will buy college for draft classes and to import their created player.

I personally will be skipping Madden in favor of College ball as I have always found it more engaging with the traditions, bands in the stands, the cutscenes and the more boom or bust aspect. I just can't build a monster team through FA and the draft.

My $70 won't hurt EA as they are still getting it in some form, but I can feel better knowing I'm not.gonna support it until College disappears again, or someone else comes along. I have all given up on 2k's arcade game. Such a tease.

Well, I say this every time I see a "ESPN had great presentation" thread.

I don't dispute that. Seeing the people grill in the parking lot and the people going to their seats before the game and all of that is great. And yes, the pre/half/post game show is amazing... for the first six times you want it. Then after that, I highly suspect the silent majority of us simply "x" through it 90% of the time.

If you survey 1,000 people, you'll get 1,000 different responses so I'm not really going to argue it, but for me, it is gameplay, gameplay, gameplay. Everyone wants the cute bells and whistles... refs on the field being a perfect example. We all yelled "this game stinks because there are no refs on the field." You got the refs on the field, but penalties-- which impacts every game every week-- are no where to be found in the game so what's the point.

But again, it's one of those things where I say to EA please give them the pre/half/post game show thing because it's what people want but I hope it doesn't come at the expense of gameplay

I'm not really a presentation guy. As someone said before, even with 2K5 it becomes repetitive after a month of playing and I just skip it all anyway. I always end up playing madden with the sound off, skipping the presentation while watching a tv series or something at the same time.

But gameplay is the best it has ever been so I keep playing this year. Usually I have moved on to another game by now but this Madden is really good and gameplay is the biggest thing for me.

If they could just get penalties to function, tighten up coverage a bit more and add the correct practice squad and IR rules in franchise mode I really wouldn't have any complaints since I realize it is a video game and it is never going to full simulate real life.
