Console Guide for CPU using Custom Playbook in Franchise

For PC, it's simple because they're only using one profile.

For console, you actually have to make and save the custom playbooks on your SECOND profile that you are going to assign your second controller. I wasted hours and hours last night making custom playbooks for 7 teams and testing out how to get them to work in Franchise, only to realize this morning, those custom saved playbooks are linked to MY profile, not my SECOND profile.

Went in on the second profile and made a custom playbook for the Cardinals with all plays set to half star in the gameplan, loaded up my Bills franchise to play them week 1, turned on the second controller and assigned it to that profile, and the custom playbook was finally there!

Now, the tricky part: You cannot set the playbook, move the controller back to CPU, and load up the game. It WILL CRASH every. single. time.

    The workaround:
Have your second controller stay assigned to that team.
Load into the game ONCE like you're going to play user vs user.
    Quit immediately.
Go back to start the game and assign the custom playbook to the CPU team with your second profile.
Move your controller back to the middle so the CPU will control them, and the game WILL load finally.
If you do not load into the game at least once user vs user, the game will crash every time you try to load in user vs cpu.

    DISCLAIMER:
Only one custom playbook can load in at a time. You cannot load into a custom playbook for yourself and the CPU. It will crash.

Just finished my first game against the Cardinals week 1.
At one point they had 6 rushes to 3 passes in the first quarter.
Then about 6 minutes left in the 4th with them down 21-0, they were at 15 rushes to 22 passes before throwing 14 straight times to end the game. To be fair, I expected this with them down 3 possessions. And they were able to come back because of it. I ended up winning 21-14. I can live with that ratio if the game script is not in their favor and they're trying to come back.

What I CAN'T live with, and I think I speak for everyone who wants a sim football game here, is when the CPU is up 21-0 and still passing 70% of the time. I really believe this should fix that and I'm excited to fall behind in a game and see how the script plays out for CPU playcalling in a situation where they SHOULD run.

About to play the Dolphins so I'll report back shortly.

NightOwl are you on Xbox or PS? Can you share your custom playbooks?

The hoops we jump through because this game is made so poorly.

Playstation. I'm not sure if they're shareable? Is that a thing? I never look at the vaults on this game.

Re: Console Guide for CPU using Custom Playbook in Franchise

First thing I've noticed is that it's still going to be very playbook dependent. Changing Arizona's playbook all to half stars made them run a lot more because they still had a good amount of run plays in their situations.

Miami has a ton of motion pass plays, RPOs, and quick play action plays in general in their situations and they're throwing a lot more often early on than Arizona did. Seems like that's gonna be another issue this year with RPOs and if you don't sag off with the LBs, the CPU will always want to throw the ball. I'm wondering if we can find like 15-20 good playbooks that already have a good mix of run and pass, customize them, and utilize those until we see a fix. Because as of right now, I can definitely see it being an issue with these pass heavy situational teams still not running enough.

How do I make a 2nd profile? Is that done inside Madden or on my console?

Your console. Just like you're going to make one for your brother or cousin or etc.

                    NightOwl it's crashing for me.

I have the CUSTOMRAVENS playbook assigned to my 2nd controller / 2nd profile.

                    1. Start the game, leave my 1st controller on my team where it is, move the 2nd controller (cpu team) over to the left, assign the custom playbook to them, then click READY on both sides starting the game.

                    2. Immediately quit out when I'm able to.

                    3. Start the game again, move the controller back over to the left for the CPU, when i click Advanced it shows BAL - J.Harbaught and i have to select the CUSTOMRAVENS playbook again.

                    4. Move the 2nd controller back to the center, click READY on my user side.

And it crashes. What am I doing wrong? Could it be that I'm also using a custom playbook on the USER side as well?

Yes, you can only load in with one custom playbook so you have to let the CPU have the custom playbook and you have to use your team one.

Lol noooooo...the Miami Dolphins playbook is so bad and thats who i'm playing with my CFM! The only way i can load 2 custom playbooks is do Play the Moment, but then I can't do the Coaching Options. Like I always have my best CB line up against the best OVR or fastest WR. Only way to do that is do Play the Game, not Play the Moment. Ah well. I'll have to pick and choose which games I can trust the regular playbook for the CPU.

I’m on PlayStation as well, so if this is the case then we could use PFF or some other NFL advanced analytics program to track teams specific personnel packages , where guys are consistently being used and work magic. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do with Madden. Largely it’s so hard for me because the overall game has never been as good as the “work needed” to make it reach a satisfying “simulation level” for me to enjoy.

But collaboratively if we found 32 guys on OS to commit to creating PBooks based on real data it would be far better than a few twenty or so plays that each team uses.

It also creates a whole knew sim dynamic if done properly. Rather than throwing in basic plays you can really dig in and create different gameplans for multiple teams.

I’m thinking way to deep into the aspect of marrying real life and Madden but as a die hard NFL fan it’s something I’ve always wanted to do with seamless effort. I think custom gameplans and playbooks for cpu should be default in the game by now.

Long post over great find again! This is huge

Curious what you guys think about the best regular (non custom) offensive and defensive playbooks are out there. Which teams are the most balanced?

Not a bad idea. Could be a huge undertaking though. I imagine it could make Franchise a lot better for hundreds of people though. Reminds me of the OSFM MLB Rosters of old. I’m still hopeful we just see a patch though instead of all these silly workarounds. Some of the playbooks are horrendous. Like extreme mentioned above, Miami’s is straight up awful. And I didn’t necessarily mind all the motion and play action, just run the ball once in awhile and it would be a great book to go up against. But there’s so many pass plays in the gameplan, running is non-existent even if you half star all the current plays. Would require actually adding/removing existing plays in the gameplan and that essentially takes up what little time I have to play to go through and check all the teams which is no fun. But like you said, one person, one team’s playbook, could be done much quicker but that’s gonna take some dedicated folks when I think everyone just wants to see a patch so we can play the game instead of always having to fix it.
