preseason cuts with injury

so i was on week 4 of the preseason, had to cut a few players to get to 53. At the time i had 5 RB, and I wanted to cut one of them. The problem? The one i wanted to cut was injured. Even though it was only a 3 week injury i tried putting him on IR to take him off a roster spot and hopefully reduce the number i had to cut by 1, but it didnt.

What do you do in this situation? If you put him on IR immediately after the game before advancing the week, will it give me the correct number to reduce the following week? Or do I just have to cut someone id ideally keep, and then once the injury is gone cut him and hope the other player i cut is still available?

As best I can tell IR does not work in lieu of a roster cut. For this reason, I usually turn injuries off after week 1 of preseason. I found the very issue you have...having a scrub locked on your roster due to injury.

The only solution would be to cut the required number of players, IR the injured on and resign someone to fill his spot.

IR works to fill the roster spot but doesn't satisfy the cut number. I asssume it must be a code issue. I try to look at it as if the injury is not fully diagnosed. Keep the guy active until the end of preseason making other cuts, then IR him because the final prognosis is serious.

On a side not I would love to see Madden implement and injury management system like MLB the Show where you can add or delete injuries (and select type, severity etc).
