Re: Why Is Madden Still Not Available On PC At This Point?

I see where some of you are coming from and i hate comparing two different games but 2k has been releasing nba2k out on PC for the last 6 years now, right around when madden stopped selling it on PC and im pretty sure madden out sells nba2k.

2k feels there is a market there, football is a much bigger sport in american than basketball, why wouldnt there be a market for football?

2k feels that they can make a bit of a profit, Madden probably doesn't feel the same way.

Thats a completely different company. Thats not a fair comparison. At the end of the day it comes down to money. If EA felt Madden would be profitable enough on PC it would exist. They dont believe the market is there and I'm sure past sales show that.

Re: Why Is Madden Still Not Available On PC At This Point?

I think the biggest obstacle about getting Madden on PC, is PCs themselves. When developing for the PS4/PS3/XboxOne/Xbox360, the developer is providing a game to a console with a fixed set of system details, with PCs one PC is unlikely to be the same as the next. This then adds the extra option into the developing process of working out what minimum requirements to aim for, which in turn have a negative effect on the game itself. This is why I think we are seeing the proliferation of cloud based games, as the main processing on the game can be done centrally, so as to envelope a wider user base.

There's also the access to games consoles as a whole. Here in the UK, the computer game industry initially developed around the likes of Amiga, Commodore, and Acorn, very much the precursors to the modern PC, and it wasn't really until the Nintendo 64 that console gaming took off (the different TV signals - PAL v NTSC - probably the reason for that as it was around that time that TVs here started being able to process an NTSC signal). Eventually this lead to a decline in PC gaming here, where pretty much for the last 4/5 years the #1 selling PC game each week has been that year's version of Football Manager. The ease at which you can now buy consoles also aids this access, in the early 90s the only place to get a console was in specialised computer games shops, electonics retailers, or big toy shops, now you go online or pretty much any town centre retailer and buy one. The cost also comes into play. A decent gaming PC is going to set you back £750+, while a console is half the price.

So all in all, it's down to numbers. Now most people have a PC, but fewer have a PC that be considered decent for gaming, fewer still have a PC reasonable enough to make Madden look good on PC, and fewer still have that decent PC as their only gaming access. As even if you had a decent PC and one of the consoles, if your friend buys Madden on one system, you are more likely to buy it on that same system, and there's the biggest obstacle.

NBA sells much more internationally than the NFL would.

I don't really care how many people like me are out there. The fact is that there is a market for EA to tap into that they are not tapping into. I have NBA 2K on the PC, and it is pretty sweet, and as a result, they will continue to get my $30 every year. I just don't like it when EA takes things away from you that used to be standard, that's all. If EA made Madden available on more platforms, they would increase their sales. Sure, maybe they won't increase the margin much, but at least you would gain some people back who would continue to buy year after year.

EA doesn't want your $30, they want your $60. I really think people are over thinking this; EA used to make madden for PC so they know what to expect for revenue. Since they stopped the PC version that probably means it's not a worthwhile venture.

I have a very powerful PC and I still would buy madden for my xbox since that is where my friends play.

You mean to tell me an NBA game can make more money on PC than the all mighty NFL?
