Maybe they have the animated scene like this for future rookies? Or for players that have switched teams. Obviously wouldn't be highlights, but would be better than a black box or 3 year old highlights.

Can also be seen on this video at the 2:17 mark

I'd prefer to keep it animated like that ^^^

In Madden 97 and 98 for PS1, having the real John, Pat, and James in the studio was wild stuff. But today, I would feel like it's out of place and would slightly take me out of the experience. Looking back, it was "out of place" then, but our thinking was different then and good quality FMV was welcomed with open arms as long as it wasn't an FMV game of course (Tomcat Alley was great though).

There is also the disadvantage of not being able to have enough variety, not that the Jim and Phil intros couldn't use more right now.

And while I like the QB videos for the run-outs, I would've preferred those be animated, too. NHL's graphical quality is just a notch or so higher than Madden's enough that the real video in NHL doesn't make me feel like I'm being taken out of the experience a bit.

I apologize I was just trying to give people a reference to how it looked in game, since the conversation was about the NHL pregame and how the commentators look on screen.

I deleted the video

lol, no.

Not your post. The post you quoted and asked a question to was a spammer.

Re: Real video of commentary guys instead of cartoon?

There's a couple of reasons why sticking with animated announcers is better than going with recorded ones.

1) as it stands now, you can ask Nantz and Simms to come in and record for a few days in shorts and flip flops and be perfectly fine. It's efficient. If you were recording them, you'd need a studio, hair, makeup, wardrobe, etc to duplicate the television experience. It cuts into your budget and your time.

2) it's far easier to stitch together audio than it is video. You can record a generic "today we see the BLANK go up against the BLANK" and stitch in the team names with very little issue. If you record it on video you either have to stay as non-specific as possible or you need to record much more content since you don't have many camera cuts in a studio presentation to hide your editing. Then, of course, if you're not cutting you need to be able to run your video in such a way that it matches perfectly without being noticed by the end-user, otherwise you're going to get crushed.

Plus, like others have said, it actually serves to pull you from the game, as your suspension of disbelief is jarred by seeing real people on screen.

I am shocked that anyone cares about this. I think it's an utterly worthless feature and I hate how much NHL has hyped it up.
