NOTES From TESTING

There are so many aspects to this mode and not a ton of time to get into due to the six hour time limit. I am going to look at a variety of different things about this mode.

One thing that I think a lot of people don’t think about until they get to that point is progression and regression. Let’s start by taking a look at some progression from individuals that had different types of performances throughout year one.

The first number listed is what that players rating was in that particular category at the beginning of Connected Franchise. The second number is their rating in that category following the first season.

A couple of things that I see here that are good and bad. The good…. It seems that they have finally made a change to the way that running backs decline. In previous versions of the game, not only were running backs that were in their mid 30s mega productive, their ratings barely declined. In this version it seems that they have finally gotten that right.

If we take a look at McGahee we see that he has dropped eight overall points from age 32 to 33. What is MORE important to me is the ratings that declined. He had a drop of five, four and seven rating points in his speed, agility and acceleration ratings respectively. More importantly, his awareness and ball carrier vision among other ratings stayed the same because age isn’t necessarily going to affect those things. That is the most realistic way for a player (especially at this position to regress).

The bad…. What the heck is going on with the production rating. Let’s look at Alfred Morris. Dude ran for 1613 yards and had 13 touchdowns. I think we would all agree that is a superb season especially in today’s pass heavy league. His production only goes up to 45? Let’s compare that to linebacker Ryan Shazier who had 46 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 Deflection. Not a bad rookie year but how does that equate to a production rating of 78 compared to Morris?

In addition to that, I want to briefly discuss the QBs. I decided to focus on the two top rookie QBs from last year. Bortles had a good year but does 21 TDs and 20 INTs equate to a 14 point overall ratings boost? What if he would have thrown for 30 TDs and 10 INTs… would he have been a 95 or higher? Manziel who threw for less touchdowns, slightly less yards but less INTs only got a boost of one point. I don’t know… I am just trying to figure it all out.

Going to go in to season two and give you guys some more info soon.

- With the passing stats, a big problem appears to be injuries. After looking at some of the big time QBs here is what I found.

For the Broncos, Peyton Manning only had 287 attempts playing in nine games
For the Redskins Robert Griffin played in 13 games
For the Ravens, Joe Flacco played in only 11 games
For the Rams, Sam Bradford played in only 10 games
For the Panthers, Cam Newton played in 13 games
For the Cowboys Tony Romo played in only 9 games
For the Dolphins Ryan Tannehill played in only 10 games.

I guess this isn’t necessarily TOO out of the ordinary but I didn’t even check all of the starting quarterbacks. With less injuries I feel like we would have better QB statistics.

- On another note, I do like the fact that they have most of the top draft picks going to more high profile colleges. Of the few first round QBs I saw the schools were Miami, USC, Wisconsin, Florida State. There was also a second round “bust” for the Giants (64 overall) that is from Virginia Tech.

UPDATED NOTES from SAPP

A friend of mine texted me wanting to know how Jadeveon Clowney progressed after his first year so I figured I might as well share that with you guys as well.

2014 Stats - 63 tackles, 19 TFL, 14 sacks, 1 INT.

He progressed to a 95 overall in that one year.

Also for anyone wondering, Production resets to 0 at the beginning of each year.

Don't have time to post the pics but some questionable things did occur in the draft in the offseason. From just a brief glance, the Ravens, Cowboys and the Dolphins all drafted quarterbacks in the first round. The Cowboys pick I can understand as Romo is 35 at the beginning of the 2015 season but I am not sure that I understand the other two.

Interestingly enough, all three of those teams had quarterbacks that played in limited games and therefore did not have maximum production. Coincidence?

- Following the 2015 season, Ryan Tannehill left the Dolphins and signed with the Bills where he (78 overall) is starting over struggling E.J. Manuel (72 overall)

- Peyton Manning has finally retired.

- Generated QB Eddie Norris has progressed from a 75 to an 81 Overall after playing zero snaps in his rookie season.

- Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has declined from a 90 overall to an 86 overall rating after throwing for 8 TDS and 13 INTs in 2015 (and yes he did play all 16 games).

There are several 99 rated players. Here are a few: LB Von Miller, CB Joe Haden, LT Joe Thomas, LB Lavonte David, FB Anthony Sherman, HB LeSean McCoy, LB Patrick Willis, LB Aldon Smith, P Andy Lee, DT Ndamukong Suh, RE Robert Quinn, K Greg Zuerelin, QB Aaron Rodgers, LB Luke Kuechly, FS Devin McCourtey, LT Nate Solder, TE Jimmy Graham, SS Kenny Vaccaro, FS Earl Thomas, CB Richard Sherman, LE J.J. Watt.

- Another thing that I am happy to see is that going in to year four, there are no running backs age 31 or older that are over an 85 overall rating with the exception of Marshawn Lynch (90 overall) and Adrian Peterson (93 overall).

One of my biggest things has always been seeing how the talent is spread out by position throughout the league. The ratings that I will be posting are those at the beginning of the 5th year which is 2018:

Tom Brady Throwing 18 TD'S and 21 Int's??????????

Ouch! That is inexcusable. As an exlcusive offline franchise guy this completely breaks any realism and the immersion I am looking for.

Re: CW SAPP Connected Franchise Review(Images Included)

I posted this in the sim stats thread, but I'll repost here. After 1 simulated season, injuries off.

The following QB's regressed or stayed the same after 1 simulated season:

Bortles, Jay Cutler, EJ Manuel, Geno Smith, Cam Newton (AWR went down 11 pts), Tom Brady (DRAMATICALLY regressed - all sub 80 accuracy), Brees, Big Ben (same as Brady, dramatically regressed), Rivers (same as Brady, Ben).

I can't really find any good QB's after 1 season....Luck improved slightly (Med accuracy went up like 6 pts, but Deep ACC went down a few).

This is not good...simming year 2 now. But I'm guessing the broken stat lines for QB's is messing up there progression.

How about retirements? Any players "dissappearing" like they did in M25?
