Anyone having a problem with not having enough time to call a defensive play

IMO this has to be fixed via patch. For all of the hype about Defense this year... to only have 12 seconds to pick a play on every single snap is ridiculous.

As stated by everyone here there's barely enough time to check out what the CPU is running and select a proper package, nevermind get subs in.

Its also totally unrealistic that the CPU has a play call in at the exact end of every play.

Can anyone verify that this is a bug or an oversight and might be fixed via patch. I've been tweeting at EA and Madden but to no avail.


While I might get to know my playbook better and be able to make a call faster the game is forcing me to sacrifice a major part of strategy that in past years has worked perfectly

I had an issue with the time too. but you have to look at the full spectrum. you're only going to be calling a few base type of plays. blitz, cover 1, cover 2, cover 3, and cover 6....so matchup with personnel and stay with basic coverages. and i found all the audibles will work too if you just guess right. and i wish we could pick random play call like practice which the call would be reasonable but of course you would still audible out if you need to.

If they would allow formation subs saved then the time I would think wouldn't be much of a problem. But when you want to formation sub and then scrolling through and picking a play, it's bad news. I waste time outs all the time trying to sub in guys. I want Elvis in all my Nickel and Dime at the OLB/DE spot. I want Mosley and Brown as the ILB's so on and so forth but I can't do any of that in time and call a play. You basically waste time outs on this.

When I played my first game, it was a big problem for me too. I've adjusted somewhat but there still isn't enough time to choose a play on defense.

At the moment, the most I could do is sub in one person on defense before the time runs out. Like others have said, familiarizing yourself with your playbook does help. I just wish there was a little more time though.

I think it's interesting because they did such a good job this year of etching us more about football. Those skills trainers really helped. But on defense, I can't do anything but match to the # of WR on the field and choose some random zone/man/blitz in the time I have. Not only are formation subs impossible, the CPU snaps so quickly that I can't make ANY defensive changes once I come to the line. If I have the audible button memorized I MIGHT be able to audible. Hell, half the time I can barely get to the player I want to control before he snaps it! Sigh.

If they could patch in formation subs in the roster management I think most would find the quick play calling acceptable. It is probably a realistic amount of time if you think of how much time a defense has after seeing the offensive package coming out to the field and getting their def package out to the field while getting the play call to all the players. The only difference is the defensive coordinator doesn't need to set formations up during each game.

Not being able to sub pisses me off. And the time is NOT realistic. In real life, when a coach subs players, he can call off and send more than 1 player at a time. Sitting here trying to sub in players 1 by 1 in 10 seconds, and pick a play is impossible.
