What does the "strength" rating really mean?

This rating has been with Madden from the beginning it seems. But what does this really mean? Consider:

Offensive Lineman = PBK, RBK, IBL to express "strength"

Backs/Receivers = "Carry" as far as how well they hold onto and protect the ball, Trucking and Stiff Arm as far as how tough of a runner they are when taking on defenders

QB = THP

Defensive Tackles/Linebackers = Block Shedding, Hit Power, Power Move, Tackling as expressions of their power

DB's= All of the above plus "Press" to express how strong they are in keeping receivers from getting off the line

Kickers = Kick Power

So...exactly what does "strength" mean again?

STRENGTH - increases chance of pancake (Oline), increases chance of power move (Dline) increases chance of truck, stiff arm, and increases rate of fall forward (ball carrier)

My interpretation of it, don't know if this is correct, is it counterbalances the opposing stat. So O-Line with all strength nd no Footwork is still viable in the game. Same goes for low strength, high Footwork. That's why the combination of high in both is the best in the game

NO

Which is why you should try to play as only one defender during games vs the CPU so that the actual player awareness ratings take effect on your team.

Strength is tied into several things depending on player position

In fact some guys would be surprised to some of things the strength rating is tied into.

Yep. STR affects catch in traffic, which is also affected by catch. so STR indirectly affects catch. It also affects jumping.
