Zone run, power run, speed run?

I want to build a team based on the run, but not sure which direction to go. Any opinions on what is the most successful? I like to run a lot of 2 TE singleback, but seem to have more luck running out of the I form. Are formations with a lead blocker considered power runs?

Quick hitting runs like the 01 trap play seem to be the most effective for me. Are there any other speed style runs other than this? Does the HB sprint hit the hole quicker? Are these considered the speed running game?

For a zone run offense is there a specific formation or set of plays to be calling? There only seem to be zone runs out of the singleback and it is only 1 play.

    Appreciate any input.

Re: Zone run, power run, speed run?

I'm not an expert on run schemes. I am much more knowledgeable when it comes to the passing game so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Power run are run plays with a pre determined gap to attack. Dive, Iso, and the aptly named HB Power are examples.

Zone runs are fairly common and can be ran different formations though zone run teams do tend to prefer singleback. Stretch plays are outside zone runs. I believe HB blast from I form is considered a zone run. On the playcall screen it tells you what kind of run the play is and you will be surprised how many are zone. Though all you need is one inside zone and one outside zone.

As far as I know, there is not a speed run scheme. I think 01 trap falls under power run but I am not sure. The two run schemes come down to blocking assignments (power=man, zone=kinda zone lol). In my opinion the difference is not that big.

In my opinion what matters is how often you pull guards and how often you call screens. If you do those things often you want linemen with decent agility and acceleration. If not, big maulers tend to be just as good at zone runs as zone run guys.

I prefer zone runs out of singleback sets simply because of the playaction. Zone runs are also funner to run for me because vision is more important. So I feel more involved. It is great when you find the cutback lane and get a good gain.

Good info thank you very much. I may try to run zone plays in ultimate team and see what suits my style.

The speed run thing is an Ultimate Team chemistry style. It seems like there are a couple plays where the RB gets the ball moving quicker. That trap play and then the HB sprint used to be, but I haven't used it this year. It could just refer to a faster running back rather than running style.

No some plays are designed to be quick hitting run plays. It is just not at the level where you could say I run a speed run offense (your PB would be very small lol).

Also, if you have HB zone weak in singleback 2 TE give it a try. It is one of my go to runs. Also works good in conjunction with 01 trap.

You're right about the small PB. I think there are a lot of these types of plays in the real NFL though. I believe the 49ers run a few where the RB/FB are very close to the line rather than being about 8 yards deep and hit the hole very hard/fast. Sometimes even in singleback set. Also older offenses that ran near/far and split backs had a lot of quick hitters. Wish I could build on offense off that rather than running 1 play all game. Not that I do, but that's what it would require.

Anyway, I had been running a 2 TE offense so I will give this play a look. Thanks man.

Not sure what your actual question is to be honest.

I run with the Eagles defense, with some read option (Foles), triple option, and traps, its tough to stop my rushing attack. I rarely have a FB, if I do its in Goal Line. I think running from shotgun hurts because you have to get back to the LOS, and there's no POWER formation, however, if you can follow your blockers correctly, you won't get touche for about 5 yards!

That's with LeSean McCoy though. Also Philly's playbook has a great singleback set, and a lot of ways to get your RBs the ball.
