Will playing a DE at ROLB hurt performance?

I took Terrell Suggs in a fantasy draft where he is listed as a 94 OVR LE. In the rosters I used to scout positions he was a LOLB. So either the roster I looked at was old or the CFM roster is old. Anyway, when I put him at OLB his rating drops to 79. Will this affect his performance on the field? Most of his important stats like block shedding and power moves are the same. Is it just awareness changing the OVR? Should I try to trade him for an OLB?

If you play the games he will be fine. As far as i know awareness only affects simming.

As for as I know, awareness affects more than simming, especially for DBs on the field. It might also have an affect on LBs as well (play recognition may be more important for them though), but I bumped up my post to the first page regarding the awareness attribute.

There seems to be mixed opinions and misconceptions on what the awareness attribute does (one being it ONLY affects the OVR) on the field, for specific positions.

His main attributes remaining the same is all that matters. Don't worry about the OVR change, that's just letting you that isn't his key or main position, so the OVR drops.

No bearing whatsoever on his attributes though. The only thing I'd worry about is what is his speed and acceleration (along with his play recognition since you have him standing up at ROLB), and will he do well standing up, playing ROLB. I think you should be okay with him standing up at ROLB though.

Awareness is important for defensive players, but sometimes the penalty for playing someone out of position is worth it. Depends on what his assignments will be. LB blitzing a pocket passer should work fine, but blitzing a mobile QB, maybe not. Putting a low awareness LB in a spy role, for instance, would also be iffy.

This is something I wondered as well. For example if I have my DE defend a wide receiver or drop into zone coverage if his speed is the exact same as a cornerback or a linebacker is the speed the same or is it relative to their position (e.g. a 99 speed on a DE is much lower than for a cornerback)?

His awr is 80 at ROLB and 86 at LE. Not much difference so I hope there won't be a noticeable drop off in his play. PRC is 86 in both spots and all his other stats are the same. He's fast, strong, excellent BSH and PMV. Don't understand the drop from 94 to 79 ovr.

I believe 99 speed is 99 for everyone. Otherwise you would see players like fast OL with 90s speed for their position.
