How do you guys call plays

It seems if I go suggested, the playbook is very limited, but I don't want to cycle through all the plays.

I would like to call a game without repeating very many plays without me specifically picking each individual play.

Is there a way to set up playbooks to get a lot of randomness in the play calling.

I call plays manually based on a gameplan, and what I observe from the opposing defense and what's going to be open for me. If you're playing against human opponents, you're gonna get destroyed with random playcalling. But you can get away with going random against the AI. But I only play human versus human, so playcalling is the most important element of gameplay.

I'm afraid you are asking too much from the game's AI. The only way you will get true randomness and variety is to cycle through the plays and call the game yourself.

I start every game with the same 5 plays in a random order (barring short yardage situations) They are my top 5 plays that I know I won't turn the ball over on 3 passes 2 runs. Doing that you can ascertain what type of defense your opponent likes to run, who they control on defense, and how they read route combos. After that you adjust your game play to the openings you see from your safety set. Run plays that hit their weakness until they prevent it.

I usually use coach suggestions, but I'm noticing the same, roughly six plays always come up. With that said, I'm going to continue using coach suggestions but I'm going to scroll down past the first three that pop up to get a bigger variety. By the way, this is user vs cpu. I haven't played an actual human player in Madden in YEARS man. I think the last time I actually played another person HAD to be over 10 years ago lmao!!

You can edit your "gameplan" so coach suggestions selects a wider variety of plays.

^ this..gameplans by editing playbooks..changing the stars on given situation...however there is no way to change the CPU playbooks and gameplans

I pick 99% of my plays from the "suggested" or "strategy" screen. I do this because I feel the CPU's playcalling is a massive downfall for them, and feel they select plays at random from the suggested screen too as some make absolutely zero sense. I do this in an attempt to make the game more even and fair. If I was playing human vs human, I would definitely choose my plays by formation.

This. I have a trap play, mtn off tackle, screen, deep pass (HB motioned) and mid-short pass. Tests the gap coverage, ability to maintain the edge, safety depth/cover 2 vs cover 3 and we Release vs corners. I don't even mean to set it up that way, I just realized it when I read your post.

Re: How do you guys call plays

I balance my selections from using one of the CPU suggested plays to diving into my PB for a specific play. Generally the weaker the opponent the more I'll use a CPU suggested play bc they adjust poorly to it. Vs CPU in a game where Q's are longer than 6 minutes I'll pick every play unless runnin no huddle. Overall vs cpu I will mainly go for balance and exploitation of what I've seen. Starting out with the same 5 plays is a good way to test defenses but I would save my 5 best plays for larger inflection points in the game.

I have 4-5 customized playbooks each for Off & Def that I use depending on what team I'm using and playing against. I know them pretty well and all took a long time to make. I try to ensure there is a reason for each play, formation, and audible to be in my book that compliment each other.

I attempted starting from a completely empty playbook but rating the plays with on each down was too much of a chore and not worth it in the end.

My O is based on PB's from PHI, DET, SF, NE, AZ
My D is based on PB's from DEN, DET, NE, AZ

While we're on the topic has anyone seen an improvement in CPU play calling since the patch or is there still an overabundance of Vert routes? I've only played CPU twice this week.. Based on my observations it has gone progressively downhill since 3-4 after the release date.

When calling plays, do you use motion a lot to get a feel for the opposing defense or do you kind of stick to a gameplan of calling plays regardless of man v zone?

I use whatever they renamed "Ask Madden" to this year on offence. On D, I pick my own, formantion based on personnel and play based on matchups.
