Online CFM salary cap help....

Ok so i made some terrible decisions, just terrible lol. I was wheeling and dealing with an nba salary cap in mind and quickly learned there was quite the difference. I found myself with a negative salary.

I bit the bullet and i rode that out for a season and next season i had 10 million in cap space. I let a few good players go in the off season thinking i was being frugal thanks to my lesson learned and entered the season with 5million in cap space.

Went to resign players and was told i don't have enough cash indicating i will be in the negative once again next season.

What can i do to free up money for next season? I have a couple key players i can't let go in free agency?

Re: Online CFM salary cap help....

Start getting rid of players that have big contracts, but low signing bonuses. The signing bonus is guaranteed money, their salary is not.

So if you have a guy making $10mil salary in 2016 with 0 signing bonus, you will save $10mil if he is cut or traded. If you have a different guy making $2mil salary over the next two years with a $6mil signing bonus, getting rid of him will cost you $3mil each season.

Start looking for high salary/low signing bonus guys to get rid of. If they do have a signing bonus, check to see how much longer their contract is and see if it's feasible to move them.

Thx for the tips. I tried releasing and trading before on and made things worse. So ideally id want to start with players who are expiring after my next season for the least residual damage?

Re: Online CFM salary cap help....

Without knowing exactly what you've done, my guess is that you offered up way too much bonus (guaranteed money) and cut/traded too many players with high bonus.

Your best bet is to go to the salary screen (under the manage roster tab) and look for players that have a high savings and low bonus. Cut/trade these guys so you can lower the numbers on your books. Also, while you're in this screen take a look at your cap penalty (top box). I'd bet that number is pretty high and it's hurting your numbers for the year.

I'd start over with a new Cfm and treat this old one as a learning experience.

Some contracts are so risky that you can really wreck a franchise if it goes bad

I understand that now, never did before I got this game.

Used to be worse back before 2010...rookie deals were much bigger then. Just ask Ryan leaf
