Keep Getting Booted Out when loading a game in Franchise

First of all how the heck do you save your progress in Franchise mode? Twice I've spent a lot time setting up my settings, sliders, and dept chart and I cannot find out how to save my progress before I start a game. Now when I finally go start my first game, during the loading screen right before the game loads it boots me out all the way to the screen at the beginning of the game and all my settings I set up are lost. So how to I save? Can I turn auto save on? How do I resolve this issue with getting booted out?
