Because it's a point of discussion. It's a sports forum and most sports games revolve around ratings.

Because we are fans! We want to see how our team is rated and the complain that they aren't rated high enough!

For me, I want to see ratings so I can figure out what team I am gonna be in franchise mode. I have a list of about 7 teams that I am considering and need to know ratings of all players before I make that decision

Another thing, it signifies the start of football season. It means football is upon us, and that's a great feeling.
