As long as Speed is still the master rating in the game for skill positions, Ginn should not be a 99, he isn't even good enough to start in the NFL...But with a speed of 99 he would start in Madden, most likely..
But if Ginn don't show 99 speed on the field he shouldn't get it ! I remember this first round WR from the Vikings Troy Williamson in madden he ran like a 4.3 and madden his rookie year rated him a 97 ! well after like 2 season of no production they had him at like a 92 or 93 a few year ago! well he didnt get old he was still like 26 years old i think madden did see he didnt play like a 97 speed !
this guy said it best :

A slow mind makes a fast player, play slow.
It truly is a two-edge sword with this issue.
Most guys Don't make it in the league because of there not football savvy !

Scaled Speed Not Making any Sense...

You may be referring to other players in the NFL, but Ginn still LOOKS like a 95-99 speed. His special teams work shows this easy. So what if he's an average WR

And so what if I'm an Ohio state fan and he's my favorite offensive player of all time haha.

Agree if he plays like a 95-99 then he should be that 95-99 but also said before rate them on a alltime scale Deion Sanders/Randy Moss is a 99 forsure

Well my stance is the staff, and the man himself confirm he is the fastest on the team. How old was Michael Johnson in 1996 when he won all those medals.

Speed can be maintained with age, I came across an article that had T.O. at sub 4.5 when he did his SEA workouts in 2013.

I don't care if Ginns hands are lowered (it's lower 70's), and catch in traffic leaves a lot to be desired (65). Point is he's a game breaking return specialist, and he can still get behind defenses as a deep threat, that's his role in Carolina. Keep safeties out the box, return punts, and make plays in space where his average hands don't present to big a risk.

But at 88 speed he's not running past anyone even though he's done it all training camp, and in the pre-season.

I keep mentioning Ginn because I am very familiar with the Panthers roster, but I know Calvin Johnson, Torrey Smith, Mike Wallace, and even Antonio Brown all saw decreases in speed.

It just doesn't make any sense why as far as I can tell.

Percy Harvin, Torrey Smith, Emmanuel Sanders, Randall Cobb, Calvin Johnson, Victor Cruz, Pierre Garcon, Dez Bryant all players in their primes all sub 89 speed.

Can you guys help me determine what I'm missing here? Is it homer-ism, or is it really an issue how far off some of this seems?

Randy Moss was around 4.2 most his career i do know in his 30's it was around 4.3-4.4 Range in his workouts !

Re: Scaled Speed Not Making any Sense...

I always thought that the speed rating is in relation of the players size and weight.
Thats how it should be.
So that way Ted Ginn could have a 89 Speed and Bobby Wagner could have a 89 Speed yet Ginn would be still faster because hes smaller and lighter.
Thats how I always understood the speed rating, so can anybody confirm this or debunk it?
Can Wagner actually keep up with Ginn in the game?
if so, the ratings are bs.
But for me it always made sense, lets take Megatron and Brown for example.
I would think that if both had the same speed rating, Brown would still be faster than Johnson because Johnson is half a foot taller and im sure there's a weight difference there too!
