CFM retiring players

Does anyone know how the CPU decides when a player retires?

Is it decided when you start your franchise (kind of like with draft classes) or is it decided after the last game of the season.

The reason I ask is because I plan on doing a CFM with the Patriots and I want Brady to stick around for at least 2 more seasons before I need to find a new franchise QB. I did a few test CFMs with the Patriots and it seems Brady retires after 1 season about a two thirds of the time. I'm willing to reload older saves if he retires after one year so I'm trying to figure out when I need to make my "point of no return save" during my CFM.

You need to buy the QB Retirement package. And perhaps make sure you get the predictability trait for him.

Can you do this in owner mode or coach mode only?

I've only ever used Coach Mode, so I can't say.

In my test CFM, Brady played 2 seasons, then retired.

I wish EA would give us the option to stop or force retirements, same with injuries , maybe as a comissioner tool so those people who like to keep their franchise realistic have the tools to do so .
CF as it stands is just so rigid in its functionality with so few options to customise your experience to your own personal liking

Yeah i hate how some guys you know would not retire already do. After my 1st season Peyton and Eli Manning retired as well as Brady and their Owner. I mean i see none of them doing that after this season definitely not Eli and Robert Kraft

Re: CFM retiring players

I don't like the way it is handled. I play two franchises and Roddy White of the Falcons retired after the first season when we won the SB. Roddy has years left on his deal and has expressed no desire to retire IRL. So why the heck would he retire after having a great year with years left on his contract?

Frankly I think they should make a change that a player announces he is going to retire BEFORE a season so you can either prepare for it or have an interaction option with the player to talk them out of retiring. It would actually make the retirement packages for coaches worthwhile.
