Mid game save

I still can't get mid game saves to work for offline CFM on PS4.

From what I read here, just exit out of the game, turn off the PS4, game will continue when I power it back on.

This isn't working for me. I go to "Continue Franchise" at the main menu, it just takes me to the start of the game. If I load the last auto saved CFM, it still takes me to the start of the game.

Am I supposed to save the franchise when I exit the game back to the CFM main screen before powering down the PS4? What am I doing wrong?

I could be wrong but I don't think you exit out of the game. You just shut power off to system.
