Why Do Linemen Move Out of The Way For CPU

I replay a sack and I see my linemen simply move out of the way for the CPU to come in and sack me. This type of CPU cheese is especially irritating. Why can't they just program real blocking?

Do the sliders address this?

I know exactly what your talking about. Did you check the linemen awareness after the play? If the defense ran a stunt, that could cause the lineman not to know who to block.

But yes, sliders would counter that to some extent.

Sometimes they just ignore the player right in front of them. It's ridiculous. The CPU players never do this and they always block smartly for the CPU QB. That's what makes it so irritating.

I will adjust sliders to be more realistic.

I'm guessing you're playing on All Pro or All Madden? EA has shown, especially with the FIFA series, that they have a hard time (to put it mildly) making the game more difficult without having the AI 'cheat'. I know this is controversial, but the the fact that the CPU plays so differently serves as proof. That a CPU controlled lineman will always block while a CPU controlled lineman on the human team sometimes can let pass rushers run straight through is the kind of ridiculous AI FIFA players have learned to live with (i.e. center backs on CPU team always wins headers in their own box while CPU controlled center backs on human team won't even go for the ball).

I haven't seen this myself in M16 so I'm not gonna say that this definitely is the case in Madden. I'm just pointing out that this 'cheating' with the AI is something EA has used before in other series because they don't know how to make the game more difficult in other ways. At least it seems that way. You could also test by adjusting it to the Pro level (or the middle/default level what ever that's called) and see if the same thing happens. Usually, at least in FIFA, the 'cheating' goes away on the default level because that's the level the game has been designed for.

tubaSimilulator is correct. It's the same reason you'll have your quarterback throw the ball 50 yards out of bounds on random plays. If the game had the quarterback merely throw the ball a few feet off, as is the case most of the time in real life, it would be too easy to user the receiver and make the adjustment. Whereas in real life, if a receiver has his back to the ball, he would never know to adjust.

You'll also see it in the run game. It's exactly why a fullback or pulling guard will blatantly miss a defender that would spring you for a score.

It's hard to make a "realistic" game when individual gameplayers have different skill levels.
