Do attributes ever increase outside of manually spending XP on them? I know in past releases that awareness would increase but this was before the xp point player progression system that is currently in place.

Wondering this as well.... At the end of my first cfm and have not yet used up xp points... Will players progress in the offseason like they used to in older maddens or is applying xp the only way to improve a player in madden now?

Players do not increase automatically, only regress. Honestly, if you draft a Slow and in some cases, Normal, development player you can typically forget about him ever being a superstar. If you want to make a new online CFM, you'll be better off developing guys now post-patch with the ability to get more XP. But I'm an offline player only so I generally just spend my XP on the intangibles and play them until I can either draft a superstar/quick dev player at that position or upgrade that position in FA.

is there anyway to see what rookies you draft have the superstar or quick trait?

When you are upgrading them go to "Traits" and it will be on that page

I wish progression was completely performance based. Hate this xp system personally

Quickest way is to upgrade players, select all positions and then just run down the list and keep an eye on the right hand side to see who has 5 lit boxes in the development box (superstar), or 3 lit boxes (quick), or 1 (normal), or none (slow).
