The first Madden on Genesis

I completely forgot to mention the weather thing on the podcast. I didn't mention the rain or the snow at all, but I did mention the little graphical effect on the players feet as they were running around on the field. If you look closely at the players feet, as they run around, they are kicking up grass and mud and stuff. It's a tiny little graphic effect, but just another little detail that added to the overall experience.

The first Madden I got was Madden 64. I had played QB Club 98 at a neighbor's house and decided to go buy it but the store was out and got Madden instead. Needless to say I should have waited.

The first time I played Madden it wasn't even "Madden" at all; it was called "Pro Football" on the Japanese version of the Super Famicom around 1991 or 1992. I had a friend who was from Hong Kong and his cousin brought one over with him when he visited the states with games like Super Mario World and Battle Dodgeball 2. I was blown away.

The first time I owned Madden (*with* a Genesis, fully surprised) was 1993 for Christmas. It was literally one of the best days of my life. I stayed up all night playing the playoff mode with New England, beating Buffalo in the snow and then winning the Super Bowl over Philly. I played the SNES version later that year, and while graphically better, the sound and realism all sided with the Genesis version.

Been hooked ever since.

But madden proved to be the better game and I've never looked back
