I love the 3-4. Usually stick with the Chiefs or Steelers playbook.

I'm old skool. Gotta have 4 down lineman. Lol. I appreciate 3-4, especially if u have 4 quality LBs, but I prefer to have 4 linemen. And, I often run 4-3 Under, specifically to actually have 5 men on the LOS.

And, 3rd and short (2 or less yards), gotta rock the buddy Ryan 4-6 gap press. Lol. That play wrecks almost all running plays, and disrupts pass plays as well.

I've been using a 4-3 Under front as my base defense the past couple years, basically since the Cowboys hired Rod Marinelli.

I typically just use whatever front the team actually plays with, I don't have a strong preference one way or another as long as I have the right personnel.

I just go with whatever the team actually runs in real life. I have my Ravens in my online league this year so I will be going hybrid mostly utilizing the 34 Over Ed and 34 Predator as base defenses.

As others have stated, teams have the personnel that fit the playbook scheme, so whatever team I'm playing as, I use their defensive playbook. I personally prefer using a 3-4 team in the Over Ed formation.

I'd rather have a 3-4, because how can you not look at big a** nose tackles like Vince Wilfork, Casey Hampton, Terrance Knighton, Brandon Williams, and Tony Siragusa and not say "Damn, I want THAT guy eating up two other big a** men in the middle of my defense."

Also, what's not to like about having two MLBs screaming about and tackling like madmen? Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman instantly come to mind.

Additionally, most of the league's best pass rushers are 3-4 OLB's. Khalil Mack, Von Miller, Justin Houston, Chandler Jones, Whitney Mercilus, Paul Kruger, Aaron Lynch etc. etc. I can go on and on. Even J.J. Watt and Wilkerson are 3-4 DEs.

I actually plan on switching it up this year with a Hybrid defense in San Diego. I can get the most out of Bosa in the 4-3 Packages and out of Melvin Ingram and Jerry Attaochu in the 3-4. I love San Diego's linebacker depth as well, so I won't have to sign too many players to fit the scheme change. Formation subs will help this year, definitely.
