This will be another year of CFM guys all moving from their players at 26 and 27 years old again.

Of course... if Darrell Green ran a 4.48 at 50 years old then his madden speed had to be about 136 when he was 27 by this logic
Players with good mental attributes and non-physical skills still have immense value beyond pure speed.

Re: Regression in 17

I'm down with tougher regression. However, if the regression is more generic and does the same thing to every position starting at age 29, that feels very boring and unrealistic. A 29 year old OL who has only been in the league 5 years should not regress the same way a 29 year old HB who has been in the league 9 years does.

I like when regression is based on Years Played, and not age. And I like when the time regression hits in is dependent on position, not the same for every single player.

I get that, but there are plenty of guys who can run 4.4 at 40 years of age, this would NEVER happen on the game.

If you have a guy with mediocre speed, for example say Courtney Upshaw, he has 78 speed at 26 years old. If he begins speed regressing at 27 what type of mental attributes would he have to have to make a 72 speed acceptable when hes 30 at LOLB? at that point his awareness can be 2,000 and he will just be aware that everyone is running past him.

Re: Regression in 17

You will have to forgive me a little here as ive not played 17 yet, so am basing this off more of personal opinion / comparing to another sports title.

If I have read some of the posts correctly, it appears that physically in some areas, players begin to decline, whilst in other areas (call it mentally) they stay the same or even improve. Now this could be like comparing apples and oranges, but in Football Manager, as players age, you will see them lose their physical stats but improve in other areas, mentally, tactically etc

In some cases these players can be rendered useless, in others, they can be more of an asset. You adjust and play to their strengths and build around their strengths.

Now I know the NFL is different and I am far from an expert on the sport or Madden. But for example, maybe your star has lost his speed at WR, so instead of looking for him to burn the backfield, surely you use him for his ability to catch or find a gap and get those short - mid yard gains.

I think of it like a farmers field, once a crop has yielded, it still leaves behind nutrients for a farmer to plough back into his land and re-seed. Those 'vets', those players declining, they may not be as shiny as they once were, but without them, the new seeds wont grow as well and next years crop may well fail

Sorry if that went a bit off-piste, but I like the management aspect that regression etc brings to the table, purely based on the offline CFM player aspect.

He would turn into Calvin pace who (as a jet fan) sealed the edge and (slowly) force the run inside. Pace must have had a 65 speed for the last few years

Re: Regression in 17

I think 28-29 is the age range where players should start to get some regression. 30 is not some magic number although regression should really start then as well.

Once again these players are only losing a few points in about 5-7 categories or so, and sometimes even less. It's certainly not enough to lower their OVR at all and you won't even notice it on the field.

If you can tell me that you can notice a player regressing from 95-93 speed, then please enlighten me cause that's pretty amazing.

This also prevents having a ton of age 30+ players with higher ratings.

I think the regression system is spot on.

Re: Regression in 17

Has anyone checked how QBs regress? In previous maddens their THP regressed, but for some reason, in M16 they made it the accuracy that regressed instead which seemed confusing to me... as they get older, yes they lose some touch but ultimately, its the zip that goes...

Re: Regression in 17

I'm for this type of regression and I think -2 is reasonable.
