They really need to overhaul their positions and depth chart and use actual football positions. They need strongside/weakside for DEs and OLBs instead of left and right, different receiver designations, and they should have specific spots for slot WRs, and nickel and dime DBs.

This is absolutely correct.

To expand upon this, there are a ton of tactical options which I'd like to see get into the game. It's probably going to take a while to get them all in.

For example, some teams user LWR / RWR, some use X / Z (split end / flanker). Some teams use LDEs and RDEs, some line up strictly to strength of the formation, some based on specific DL technique. Some teams line up cornerbacks and safeties based on left / right side, some have their cornerbacks follow specific receivers, some have their safeties swap based on formation strength, some have their safeties swap based on which hash mark the ball is spotted on (field side or boundary side).

And this extends to defensive play design too; some teams like to blitz based on offensive formation strength (be it at the strength or away from the strength), some based on field side vs boundary side, some based on which side their best rusher lines up on, some based on which side the weakest offensive lineman is on.

Personnel deployment and playcalling hopefully are moving up the list of "things to rebuild soon"; a lot of the game is moving forward, and particularly as the real-world NFL continues to specialize I'd hate to see these detailed tactical options get further left behind.

Re: CB depth charts

It's not a glitch. Or a mistake. Anthony White said its on purpose on Twitter. They are putting the X and Z in the proper spot.

I starting doing this on my own in Madden 16. I got tired of Dez not bring the split end.

It would be nice to have a auto flip for CB's for teams who want it.

Some teams always keep CB's in the same spot not matter what and just use bracket coverage on the X.

The X is typically the team's best receiver and lined up on the line because he can beat the press.

So Madden got it right.

Just flip your CB's in man. Since the X will be on the left

This may be right. However all the top rated receivers in real life do not line up as the split end on the left side of the formation. Most do but some actually line up as the flanker. Look at NFL game books to see how certain receivers line up to start the game on Sundays. Conversely all the top corners are not always on the left side of the defensive formation either as is the case in madden now.

Re: CB depth charts

So basically I need to put my #1CB at #2 on the depth chart, and my #2CB at #1 on the depth chart?

And then for WR's #1 will typically be on the left, #2 will typically be on the right, and #3 is still the slot.

Correct?

For the CPU you also have to swap your No. 1 WR with your No. 2 WR in order to not have a mismatch.
Am I'm right?
