Franchise - Offline vs Cloud Saves

What is the actual purpose of saving to the cloud as opposed to saving 'Offline'? I blindly chose Cloud but am big time regretting it.

My Internet has been down intermittently the past 2 days. Guess what that means! It means I can't play my franchise because I need to be connect to the EA Servers. And if you lose connection to the EA servers during drills or a game, that game will not count and you'll have to play it over from the beginning. Quite the time sink, and immersion killer.

Frustrations and complaining out of the way (outside of 1 or 2 random Comcast issues per year I have a solid internet connection) what is the benefit to saving to the cloud? My lesson is learned, I'm going 'Offline' from here out.

you can download patches and have them applied without having to restart. apparently faster sims. I'm still going offline, just waiting for this first patch that's gonna fix the big glaring bugs.

So, patches to the game are not applied to your offline franchise?

They are, but sometimes EA will make a tuner that works online before the patch drops to make it take effect offline.

Wait they are? So I can start an offline franchise now, and the patch will still be applied when it comes out?
