Offense only vs CPU controlled Defense

So, I can't play defense. Never have been able to. And I'm ok with that.

I've tried playing offense only with slow game speed and I love that except for one issue. You have no control over calling timeouts or injury management, etc. So I've went back to playing defense but not taking control of a player.

So here is my question. Does laying defense but not controlling the highlighted player let that player play out the same as if in offense only?

As long as you don't move the stick or press any buttons while that defensive player is highlighted, he will play himself as if you were in CPU vs CPU mode so to speak.
