Ball Hawk/Swat/etx

Sorry if stupid question but is it more effective to hold down the button (triangle, square or d), press it or tap it rapidly to initiate the ball hawk, swat, press coverage?

instructions say to hold the button as soon as the ball is in the air, although, i have better success when timing my button press.

How does it initiate press coverage? Also, I thought R1 was to swat? No wonder I always get mossed.

the "NEW" swat mechanic is "x on xbox" or "square on playstation." i dont think r1 does anything at all this year when defense is in action..

i feel like everytime i play MUT and i try to hold the swat mechanic button or intercept it just dont work, i get beat everytime.... so i just time it myself now
