Does realism bother you when choosing a team for CFM?

So let's say you want to do a rebuild style CFM, but a team like you, for instance, the Vikings, aren't a real rebuild. In fact they have a super sweet defense and an exciting mobile young QB.

Then what? Do you mess around with their roster and start a CFM, making it harder but less realistic? Or do you just choose a truly terrible team like the Browns?

I enjoy the process of team building the most while playing a franchise, so I tend to go for a team that isn't very good so that there is plenty of room for improvement.

But would you consider altering the Vikings (or whoever) roster to make them a rebuild?

I would likely choose a terrible team over scraping an already good team. You could also do a fantasy draft so none of the teams are realistic, and intentionally pick aging vets and a few young guys who need work. create your own rebuild challenge.

If I was hell bent on doing a rebuild I'd pick a bad team

My favorite thing to do is rebuild a team but sometimes I start off too good and it ruins it for me. I abandoned my Eagles CFM at launch after 1 year cause I went all the way to the NFC Championship game and Carson Wentz went to the pro bowl. Didn't feel realistic to me. Boy do I feel like an idiot now..

Eh. Not really. It just doesn't make sense. If a gm came in and did that to a contender, they'd be canned so fast.

I do consider taking a good team that has weaknesses and trying to fix them to make a perennial contender.

Ex: fix the Steelers defense, get a pass rush, secondary, find Ben's successor for a few seasons in, get rid of a bum like Martavis Bryant.

Yeah I've done things like this too. You could use a team that's good, but maybe their top guys are a bit older so you have to rebuild behind them. Kind of the best of both worlds and it doesn't seem unrealistic if you go 11-5 with a good team. If you take the Browns and year two have a 10-12 win season that's probably not the most realistic.
