What situations is this happening in-game? It might actually be a correct implementation of the rule:

Quote:
ARTICLE 5. FOURTH-DOWN FUMBLE
If a fourth-down fumble occurs during a play from scrimmage:
a. The ball may be advanced by any member of the defensive team.
b. The player who fumbled is the only Team A player permitted to recover and advance the ball.
c. If the recovery or catch is by a teammate of the player who fumbled, the ball is dead, and the spot of the next snap is the spot of the fumble, or the spot of the recovery if the spot of the recovery is behind the spot of the fumble.
Note: After a change of possession has occurred, the restrictions in (b) and (c) are no longer in effect for the remainder of the down.

ARTICLE 6. FUMBLE AFTER TWO-MINUTE WARNING
If a fumble by either team occurs after the two-minute warning:
a. The ball may be advanced by any opponent.
b. The player who fumbled is the only player of his team who is permitted to recover and advance the ball.
c. If the recovery or catch is by a teammate of the player who fumbled, the ball is dead, and the spot of the next snap is the spot of the fumble, or the spot of the recovery if the spot of the recovery is behind the spot of the fumble.

what Smashman said is right and also sometimes with the physics, the players knee hits the ground when they scoop it up. I've seen that in replay mode a few times.

Well I've learnt something new today. Didn't know the 4th down or 2 minute fumble rule.

I've fumbled it...a lot. Tannehill doesn't seem to like to keep hold of the ball when hit and I've not seen it nearly this bad before. I've had a few scraps where your not sure who has the ball until the camera angle either changes or doesn't, but I've also seen this happen numerous times in real life.

It is a well known fact the ball is at its most slippery immediately after a fumble.

I've had several instances of fumble recoveries and diving interceptions by both me and the cpu where there wasn't a offensive player anywhere near defensive play and play is dead with no chance at advancing the ball.

Even had one where sacked qb fumble scoop up by D player be whistled dead.

I feel like they tried to emulate pileups with random kicked balls and botched recoveries instead of going the button mashing route they did a few years back. I've encountered a ton of fumbles this year where I have one guy who is in good position to scoop it up and take off but instead can't grab the ball. That's when ridiculousness ensues, guys from both teams start diving at the ball and a recovery may not happen for about 5 seconds.

Implemented to prevent another "holy roller" from occurring.

I have seen some occurrences where a fumble was not advanced in M17 as well, and it didn't fall under either of these scenarios.

More patchwork needed here.

Would be nice to see the refs uncover the pile to find out who has the ball.

Do you have video of it? I had a fumble not advanced which is what made me look up the rules in the first place. I don't have video and can't remember the situation I was in so I can't say either way if it was or wasn't correct to the rule. I'll be ready next time it happens though.
